Sonic 1 and 2 getting the Sonic CD treatment by Taxman and Stealth

From a computer, you'll need to transfer the contents of "/Android/com.sega.sonic2" (I'd assume the same naming for Sonic 1, minus the 2) from your old device to the new'un. The /Android/ folder is usually located in the root of an android devices storage. Play Games cloud storage only stores high scores and achievement currently, IIRC.

Sorry, I didn't see the bug fix topics. I find it strange that people are saying they can't find Sonic 4 on Android devices because I saw both episodes downloadble on the Amazon Fire TV.

 

So, I'm not sure on the state of save editing for these titles, but would there be any interest in an upload of "complete" save files for the Retro games? I've finally wised up and backed them all up so I won't lose them. There's not as much point with Sonic CD, but I've got Sonic 2 with all emeralds for all four slots with different characters (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Sonic & Tails).

I'll need to play Sonic 1 again, but I was wondering if there's any way to hack a save file so you can get seven emeralds? Permanently enabling that, along with the Sonic 3 shields for both games, would be ideal.

 

Taxman has managed to get his Retro Engine running on (New) 3DS homebrew. Below pics are (what I assume) the TaxStealth remasters of Sonic 1 and 2, as well as Taxman's Sonic CD remake, running on the New 3DS. He says some more work needs to be done for the stereoscopic 3D effect to work though.

Yeah, it's not going anywhere for these three games.

But it's a fun proof of concept not just for Sega, but if Tax wants to do work on the 3DS.

 

I still don't understand why Sega didn't do this in the first place. Seeing as Taxman has all 3 games running, it seems (and I could be horribly wrong) that it would have been less work compared to the M2 method.

I doubt it'll happen, but with the 25th coming, hopefully Sega will get Taxman and Stealth to do all 3 games as a retail compilation release.

Sega of America doesn't talk to Sega of Japan. They never have.

 

I know, but SoJ had to approve the mobile remasters, so it's not like they didn't know about them when they were commissioning the 3DS games.

Hopefully now that Haruki Satomi is fully in charge of SoJ's game devision, things will improve, as he played a role in approving the Taxman/Stealth games.

 

More likely there already was an agreement that M2 gets to port the arcade and Mega Drive games to the 3DS, and they're not going to let two random Western hotshots interrupt that, for risk of souring SoJ, M2, or both. Which is a sensible reason, really.

 

Ironic since Sega itself was founded as an American company. They seem to have forgotten that :P

 

Those would be amazing to have for an anniversary collection, but for some reason I don't think SEGA will be solving all the problems with rereleasing Sonic 3 by then... =\

Its business practices actually shoot themselves in the foot and their stubbornness is at a level where I feel only near/actual bankrupcy could let the two sides have any form of civil fucking agreement.

Does the series even have a following in Japan? At all? I've seem some japanese fan work but thats few and far between, plus some of that I've soon found out comes from western weebs who want to be an anime artist. So what the fuck is with this baka gaijin mentality when their market IS THE REGION THEY DETEST?!

 

Considering they keep having the most success in Japan, don't know what you're talking about. Remember, Sonic != the end-all be-all of SEGA, as SEGA themselves ought to remember more

And I really doubt it goes down so much to "baka gaijin" as to "there already is an agreement in place". Were Taxman and Stealth Japanese, I doubt the result'd have been any different- M2 has a long-running relationship with SEGA, they'd started the classics ports already, SEGA's not going to suddenly hand two of said classics ports jobs to someone else. Especially when M2's doing a good job so far- they may not have the extras the Retro versions have (although in some cases you might have to argue if that's not a bit of a positive), but they have the game, running pretty much perfectly, on the go.
