If this is about the Michael Jackson tracks, they could just use remastered versions of the songs that replaced them in Sonic & Knuckles Collection.

This idea keeps coming up and I have no idea why. Those songs were terrible. Every one of them.

The best thing they can do is do what they did with DKC3 for the GBA and just compose entirely new tracks. Maybe not for the entire game but for the affected ones.

That's your opinion. With the exception of the overly cheery IceCap tune, I liked the original S&KC compositions, even if the game presented them in crappy midi format. The remastered versions wouldn't use midi anyway.

  5. Clearly, they should go back to their original idea from 1994 and rehire Masato Nakamura to compose a brand-new soundtrack. //forums.sonicretro.org/public/style_emoticons/default/colbert.png

haven't genesis style recreations been done before? what would the PC version tracks sound like with a sonic 3 style recreation to them?

Randomly decided to play this again while waiting for software updates, and they fixed it.

Instead of letterboxing it, they made it even wider. I haven't had time to check out all of the bosses to see how they're affected by this, but the two I checked appear to be handled the same way as the first widening. In other words GHZ3 just has more space to the sides of the platforms and final zone you just see more on the sides.

I'm surprised they took this approach, as it probably wasn't intended for wider than 16x9, but I'm okay with it. It is a bit awkward having the controls so close to the sides of the phone though, I wish they were closer to the center.

Over on Android, the game is now crashing after a few seconds along with Sonic 2.

Slice of life visual novel, coming soon...?
I'm pretty sure you can pimp your controls in the options menu. I like to set the joysticks 100% transparent to confuse my friends when they play the game on my phone

Yeah, you're right. I looked at the screen yesterday and saw only options to change the size and opacity, but today I checked again and realized you can actually drag them around when on the controls screen. My bad.

  13. Old school Sonic in ultrawide is very satisfying. Now we just need Sonic CD updated and 3K ported and iPhone is the ultimate retro Sonic machine. ;P

Edit: Wait, how come Mania didn't get an iOS version?

    Working on my art!
If I had to guess it'd be because of the price of the game. It's $20 everywhere and that wouldn't fly on mobile devices. Alternately if it was $5, or riddled with ads, that might take away from the console versions that cost $20 since that might be more appealing to some. Also it'd just take more time to port it to mobile devices, and 2P mode would have to be highly revamped and function more like Sonic 2 mobile's multiplayer (which IMO it should have anyway. Online multiplayer would have been awesome, I don't really have people that want to play Sonic in 2P mode with me around here).

I haven't compared the .rsdk files to see if they actually changed anything, but some of the behavior seems like they just updated the resolution in the app without optimizing the game for the wider resolution. The Sonic 2 title cards for example start with the yellow part already on screen and the rest animates in afterward. Also I keep getting an ad when I launch the games, even though I paid for them when they first came out and they are fully unlocked so the remove ads option is already gone. What the fuck?

For Sonic CD, I know it starts to have issues on the title screen when you crank it up to 21x9, but the iPhone X aspect of 19.5x9 seems to be just fine. I'm guessing we'll need to wait for it to be absorbed by Sega Forever and give ads to people who paid money before there's an official update. :-(

That doesn't look fine, it looks stretched.

EDIT: Linked images have been changed.

That's embarrassing. I kept wondering why it wasn't breaking, because I knew 21x9 had issues. I forgot that there's a check that caps the width back to 424 if it's larger than that. (424x240)
"Mock ups" updated, and I guess my comment isn't true anymore; the title screen does have issues that would need to be corrected. The special stage looks fine and so do the levels.

Sucks that Android users have to re-buy these new updated versions. When I choose "restore purchases" it just takes me to the store page of the old abandoned version.

I really don't know where to post that information, so I'll put it here:
As we suspected, the Switch version of Sonic 1 will indeed have the drop dash.
