lol. Okay this made me laugh. It's true though! I'd love to play a better/improved and more competent version of this beautiful mess of a game on PC.

My game with an extremely long name!
Well, time for me to join the discussion. While I'm at risk of echoing many, that looks amazing, Gistix. Now, I'm echoing almost no-one and saying that I personally loved 06. Perhaps I got lucky and inexplicably got a non-buggy version of it (it was buggy in places, but nothing game-breaking, just fun for the most part). And to hear you're adding in Metal is just great! But, please do split it into two modes, original physics etc. and the new. I know it would probably be strenuous, but I'm sure that at least I'd be really grateful.

Yeah this is the thing. I felt the same when I played it. I know this is probably an unpopular opinion and goes against common sense and pretty much every review of the game there is but I actually enjoyed Sonic 06's main Sonic campaign. I only played Sonic's story to the end but I did actually enjoy it. I didn't think it was an amazing game or anything and I was aware of the game breaking glitches and unfinished nature of the game but because it mirrored SA2's engine (full control over Sonic and recoil bouncing off of enemies and rotating in the air - so what made me love SA2 so much) I actually enjoyed the core game to a certain extent. I could see as clear as day the game had faults and could have been much better had it been given more development time but my overall feeling from playing the game was "this is pretty good and I'm enjoying this" and at the time I couldn't understand all the hate being thrown at the game.

I think the game's greatest failing was that because it was such a catastrophic bomb both critically and commercially - Sonic Team then abandoned the SA2/Sonic 06 style of gameplay and tried to reinvent Sonic again and again from then on believing that that particular mechanical method of controlling Sonic was a failure and hence the modern Sonic boost gameplay we saw later along with continued and repeated attempts to redefine Sonic over and over again. Personally I felt Sonic (at least control wise) was perfected as of SA2. The evolution the series saw after Sonic 06's failure put me off the series for most of the games afterwards. SA2/Sonic 06 felt like you had constricted, full control over Sonic whilst in the newer games I feel like I'm controlling a race car that's rocketing ahead of me and it totally breaks the immersion and my connection to the game.

Perhaps that's why I'm so interested in this project. It's the last game I felt that had that type of control around Sonic.

Well, I liked all the gameplay, barring the nonsense with the floating balls in Aquatic Base. But, yeah, exactly what you said. Except I played the Boost-Era games before the Adventure ones. Probably helping cement them in my favour, although I don't mind Unleashed onwards. Lost World can go die in a hole though. Played nothing like a Sonic game.

I'm not saying he can't do it; and if he genuinely wants to, fair play to him, hope you have fun Gistix! Just saiyan. =P

I rate Sonic 06 higher than Shadow. Without a doubt.

But anyway, I really would like to play this. I knew there were hidden things, slightly different routes and stuff in 06, but the high chance of the game fucking you over and killing you while trying to get there put me off even trying. With this, I can experiment a bit more without cheap, unfair deaths. Keep it up.

Botomless pits everywhere and deadly water that only needs to touch your socks and its curtains.

There were no more bottomless pits than there were in Adventure through Heroes, and if you seriously fell into them you were just bad at the game. Bottomless pits aren't a design sin in 3D platformers.

I might be wrong and I don't remember many pits in Super Mario 64 for example.
Sonic 4 and Generations / Unleashed's 2D sections are as annoying as any of the 3D Sonic games. And YES they feel exactly as '06 or Adventure or Heroes and company. There is no excuse.

Meanwhile the classics had on average less than 1 pit per act. Even the frickin Sonic 3D had no botomless pits.
And even in the classics, when you reach the bottom of the screen and the camera stops scrolling downwards you know its curtains if you fall and you start shitting bricks. Sorry but I can't shit through the whole Crisis City.

They asked Sega what their position was on fangames, and received no response. It got C&D'd because Sega were about to release a shitty iPhone port of SoR3.

I'm honestly surprised you were using Blitzsonic's source as a base for things. Everyone needs to start somewhere awesome choice to start from to show others before that something can be done with it. I'm interested in this project now.

To be honest, looking at people play this game really makes it seem fun to me, and I did have a bit of an enjoyable time with 06 mods in Generations up until the only computer I ever had capable of running it got trashed. I'd probably like a version of Sonic 06 that is basically a standalone version of the Unleashed Project Generations mod: No story, no boss battles, just the levels themselves. And fix the physics all you want, but please leave the ability to homing attack robots into crates/other robots intact. Knocking enemies into other stuff like one of those action figure commercials is strangely satisfying for me. Hell, I'd probably enjoy Garry's Mod more if I didn't have to use keyboard/mouse or, God help me, a gamepad to build what I want to knock down or blow up.

I agree completely with Chris, Sonic 06 was a guilty pleasure of mine. I played it back then when I thought the glitches were me just sucking, so I tried harder to play it.

I should really play this again after all these years though, it's been ages.

So I cannot wait until the PC remakes comes out so I don't have to buy it, lol.

Put me in the team "I cannot understand why someone would even try to do this".

Do not get me wrong, this is amazing and interesting, but it's amazing and interesting in the strangest (and perhaps, worst) way that this can be. Sonic'06 is, in my opinion, a terrible game in every way - its engine and bugs are part of what makes it so bad, but they are certainly not the cause. I cannot think of a single thing in the game that I enjoyed: the level design is awful (and I cannot understand how someone can say something good about it), the songs are not particularly interesting (and Sonic games traditionally have great songs), the gameplay is completely abysmal (inertia, what is this I can't even), the plot is one of the worst things I've ever seen in my life.

I "kind of" admire the effort put into the project, but I get depressed when I remember that this effort would be better spent on virtually anything else. If this were a project where they were trying to "rethink" the game, trying to fix its problems, I would be really interested. But I can only be shocked by the choice of trying to recreate this game for any reason whatsoever.

I think that the first part of Kingdom Valley is pretty great, as is most of the music in the game. Maybe this is too big a change, but I would like to see the normal jump register as an attack.

Comments exactly like this are a dime-a-dozen, ya know. :v:

For some fans, '06 is a novelty of what could have been. (It's that way for me.) To others, it's a guilty pleasure, and to fans like you, an irredeemable stinky pile of poo. A recreation like this definitely won't be of interest with the third group, but a lot of people would play it, one way or another.

Very true, it's just that, based off the alpha trailer, the "what could have been" for the game is just too radically different from how '06 actually ended up that it might not even count as an '06 remake. But that can be kept in mind...

And they're common for a reason. If something appears too often, it's insanity to believe that there is no real motive behind and it doesn't have any value. Indeed, it's just the opposite: it's precisely because they are common to any rational person would see that there is something meaningful behind it.

But everyone is free to live their life as they wish, no matter how exotic/strange/pointless it may seem for others.

There's always the original if you want to play it again.

So, if it's for the novelty of what could have been, why don't try to *be* it could have been? At least, it would be interesting.

I'm talking more about the monotonous paraphrasing of "lol this game sucks what a waste of talent" several times over in this specific thread, than whether such an opinion carries weight at all. I'm shocked you would assume I attempted to invalidate what you said just because it's part of an overwhelming consensus from the fanbase; far from it.

Everyone knows at this point that '06 was an awful game with an awful lot of potential, so there's nothing about your opinion I found fault with. (It still made a longer lasting cultural footprint than the Avatar movie, however. Darn it, Cameron!)

Sonic fans may beat that figurative dead horse for all time, but do we really have to go in circles about it here too? It doesn't seem to accomplish anything in relation to the project; the creator is determined to recreate Sonic '06 1:1, besides the obvious physics problems that made it so unplayable.

And risk getting pre-order nagged by a GameStop employee, then have to come back for a second pre-order nagging if the disc didn't work? :v: (They're forced to by policy, so they can't help it.) Madness!

While Ebay is an option, it would have been way more convenient if SEGA didn't delist it from LIVE/PSN digital services.
