Gamerguy, I am amazed over your good quality. You have done a great job. It could have been a lot worse. I have this high quality Sonic now that I can work on. My drawing skills I mean!

But I can see midframes which is kinda annoying.

Also the ending move RAR was corrupted in your first "fast" mirror

If by "midframes" you mean blended frames, that's in the original file (at least it was in the files I got from Koji).

If you mean mice teeth, then that's because he captured it from analog video output, while mine was transcoded straight from the ISO.

Edit: 540 pixels tall? That's surely a weird resolution (I'd be expecting one of either 480 or 576). For comparison, here's the same frame he posted, from my version:

640x448 resolution. I'm sure it could easily be coaxed into DVD-compliant format, but I haven't tried doing so yet.

Ok, the files are successfully download and I am now beginning to upload them to RSN.

I tried to view the ending file, but I think my divx decoder is fucked because all I got was audio and a few frames, heh, I'm hoping the file isn't corrupted.

I checked both of them, they played perfectly for me.

    Hmm...something weird's going on.

The files I downloaded from that thread were identical to the files I downloaded back when they were first released. Bit-for-bit identical. I find it hard to believe that both people would have chosen exactly the same encoding parameters, which is the only legitimate way for the files to be identical.

I think this person is trying to pass off these files as their own. Either that or the Psxphile mentioned in Koji's post changed his name to Star Knuckles. Anyway, my files (which voice was supposed to host for me) are smaller, with 256kbps MP3 audio instead of WAV.

Don't worry, they will get there, its just it takes time on dial-up....its alot diffrent when youre uploading files at 2.30kb/s as opposed to 30kb/s

Sorry, I seem to have missed the part earlier where you said you were on dialup.

I know my rips aren't the best quality possible. I did it through S-Video instead of analog composite, so I honestly think it's the best I can get with my card. For the recording settings, I used the one with the highest average between frame rate and resolution. The ending is re-uploading to the "fast" server, but you probably just want to wait for RSN's rips from the ISO - they'll be better, I'm sure.

I think the original source that Sega used was composite, anyway. At frame 483 in the raw rips, Sonic's feet have chroma crawl on them.

Well, I found out why they weren't playing on my computer. They were encoded using XviD, so I needed to find a decoder. After that I sent the files, through a 7 hr DCC marathon to QJimbo since he can upload them to the site faster than I can, the files are avalible here. Also I'll upload the codec zip Q gave me with instructions on how to install them.

    EDIT:

Yeah, I didn't change the video, that's the format it was already encoded in. All I did was compress the big-ass PCM audio, which probably saved at least 10-15MB per file.

Also, thanks for helping me spread them, Simon. If you want to rename them and take off the "_mp3", feel free, I only did that to give them a different name than the originals. They've been out for well over a year, but I'm just glad that I had downloaded them back then. Also so I could prove that the other person to 'encode' them was actually distributing the same files from way back, PCM audio and all.

    I can't get Simon's version to download, but Voice's working with 40 - 45 kbps speed.

Wow the quality was perfect! Thank you LocalH, and Voice, and Qjimbo for doing all this for us!

Oh and the Japanese music! Must be an European SMC version?

Actually, according to the original post by Koji, this guy Psxphile dubbed the Japanese music to it, so I'm thinking the video came from the US version.

Was the animation itself the same on all 3 versions? If so it wouldn't be hard to dub the sounds to it.

EDIT: Spelling error I spotted as soon as I hit "REPLY".

EDIT2: Added the videos to the RSN Video Archives
