Skype has pushed out Skype for Android to the Android Market. Supposedly, it is available everywhere except for China and Japan. In the United States, Skype for Android is WiFi only, but in other countries, Skype for Android will run on 3G as well. Hopefully someone will find a way to force it to run on 3G in the USA. Note that at this time it is broken for Galaxy S phones, and it won't work properly on phones that have a screen resolution lower than 320x480. Here's the QR code for it:
It is optimized for screens with a resolution of at LEAST 320x480. Phones with that resolution or higher will be able use the application properly (excluding Galaxy S phones).
I fucking love you, I had no idea it was out! I've been DYING for this for a long time. As for working over 3g, you're not missing much. Skype for Windows Mobile was choppy as hell when I tested it on AT&T 3G in a good coverage area.
Neat shit - I'll be sure to let my brother know about this (I'm not really in the mood to change my phone at the current time and I'm on a Nokia), but I may well pick this up when I finally get my Android tablet. Oh, but I can read that QRCode. =P market://details?id=com.skype.raider
xeudoxus on DroidForums.net has hacked the Skype for Android app to allow calls in the United States to go over 3G instead of being Wi-Fi only. So now, you don't need a WiFi connection to make skype calls in the USA, if your phone lets you sideload apps, that is... So, if you are an AT&T customer, you'll have to jump through some hoops to install it. T-Mobile and the rest should be okay. And Skype is still broken on Galaxy S phones. Here's the QR code for the APK.
