Shadow Generations makes me want a remake of Sonic 2006

Besides, they can't even change enough about the story to make it actually good without contradicting both Generations games' depictions of its events.

How about Elise's possession of the blue Chaos Emerald contradicting 15 years worth of past games?

How about Blaze's role contradicting Sonic Rush?

How about Mephiles' plan making zero sense?

How about Sonic doing nothing in his story but saving Elise over and over again?

How about Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Rouge serving literally no purpose to the overall narrative?

How about Iblis being trapped behind Elise's tears being incredibly fucking stupid?

How about everyone having the personality of a wet sponge?

I get that the kiss is commonly identified as the biggest problem of '06's story, but it's far from the only one.

 

I'd be down to see Solleana again because I think it's a great setting, but I don't think it needs to be in an 06 remake. Another game with a setting that actually feels like a real place with history and culture would be nice.

 

I think they should remake every game and then 20 years from now they should remake the remakes

I really, really don't want to see 06 remade. Any remake of the game would be an attempt to fix it. Fix the gameplay, fix the story, fix the character designs, fix the kiss etc etc. But those things are all part of the series' history. They were mistakes that happened, and they're subjective flaws a game that's widely regarded as a mess. Just leave it be and accept it for what it is. It doesn't need to be retrodden. 06 is too far gone for any sort of remake that would satisfy people en masse whilst still being faithful to the original game. Sonic 06 is its flaws.

I wouldn't object to a straight up remastered port though. Render it at a higher resolution with a stable framerate and reduce those load times courtesy of modern hardware (if that even works with the game's compression), but the game should otherwise left in-tact, warts and all. I wouldn't even want them to bother fixing bugs or completing features that were incomplete/cut. All of those resources could be better spent elsewhere. Chuck it in a collection alongside Shadow and some of the other runts of the franchise and then call it a day.

This however I would be okay with. Not right away because holy fuck I'm starved of totally new content right now, but eventually some sort of follow up to 06 in the timeline where Solaris, Mephiles and Iblis don't exist is a legitimately exciting idea.

There's always been a degree of bile fascination with it, but now we've got the confluence of people who were small children that grew up with Shadow and 06 meeting the current group of youngsters being introduced to the franchise through the movies.

We always knew this day would come...

 

I was one of those kids, and I thought the game was cool. I'd love to see Shun get the opportunity to go back and finish the game that he clearly still thinks about time and again.

Sonic 06 is still the most fun multiplayer co-op 2P game, certainly for the 3D games. It's also fun multiplayer in single player to laugh along with the game's insanities.

 

We already got arguably the two best levels in the game remade in Sonic Generations and Shadow Generations. Shadow’s Chaos Island is basically a streamlined Flame Core and Shadow’s Rail Canyon is like Radical Train. All the rest of the levels are disposable in my opinion and are worse than the Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 levels that clearly inspired them.

I don’t get the point. Work on new creative levels!

A time travel set-up could work though. It’d be neat to have in-level time travel expandiing on Sonic CD.
