Serious Trouble with Gens

Discussion in 'General Sega Discussion' started by Authur, Sep 15, 2009.

  1. I'm having some serious trouble loading pretty much any Sega CD ISO file I try to load with Gens. I haven't tried Gens+, I gave the .iso and the .mp3s the same name with a track number for the .mp3s along with a neat little space in the title, I checked by BIOS files and they were fine, and everything seemed to be right! And still, when I try loading it with Gens, THE FUCKING MUSIC PLAYER SHOWS UP!!! No matter how many times I've got to the BIOS screen and pressed the start button, it just wouldn't fucking work, and instead think I put in a goddamn audio CD. >_<+

This would be useful if I was trying to play some Kid Rock out of my emulator and all, but I'm trying to play ROMS with it. To be more specific, I'm trying to play the Japanese version of SonicCD++ with a small little replacement in the MP3s!(replaced Japanese wacky workbench present with American wacky workbench present) This is seriously pissing me off to no end, and it doesn't stop at Sonic CD++. It hasn't worked for ANYTHING I download for Gens!

And you want to know what's the kicker? ALL THE ISOS THAT WORK IS SONIC 1 MEGAMIX V4.0!!!

    Please help me. @_@

    W)(at did you say? Banned
Did you make a cuesheet? And if you did, did you appropriately label the iso as binary?

Solution - Use a different emulator.

Gens doesn't support BIN/CUE properly, and that wouldn't help with ISO/MP3 anyway.

    Nice constructive comment there.

Authur: Are you sure you're loading the Japanese region version of Sonic CD++? If so, does the boot screen say "MEGA CD" or "SEGA CD"?

Doesn't the Japanese SegaCD BIOS require you to format the SRAM before you can launch a game for the first time?
Go into options and do it.

No, that's a game-specific thing. It's rather dumb that Sonic CD won't start if you have an unformatted RAM cartridge plugged in, since it can just save to the internal RAM anyway, but whatever.

If it is the japanese version, the Mega CD Boot Rom bios has the emulator go to the CD audio screen first. In order to play the game, you press start. That could be the problem, not unless the RAM cartridge screen shows up.

  8. Okay, I downloaded Kega Fusion and now it works just fine. The only problem is that even though I have the .iso and the .mp3s in the same place, the music doesn't play at all. Can you help me out? :(

How many mp3 files do you have in the folder? And also, remember you have to name each song after the .iso. For example, if the name of the .iso is Sonic CD ++, you would have to name the .mp3, Sonic CD ++01.mp3, and save it in the same folder as the .iso and go on from there.

  10. So how should I go about that? I have all of the Japanese soundtrack, plus one replaced with the american version of wacky workbench present

Right click, and rename the .mp3. I've ran into this problem before, and that solved it. Also, if I am not mistaken, Fusion handles .mp3 files slightly different than Gens does.
