does anyone know if M2s new Space Harrier port on the Mini 2 uses Mega CD features? That would be the full set if it does! :-D
Well I will try my luck at this, let's see... Phantasy Star (series) was on Master System, Mega Drive, Saturn and Dreamcast. Virtua Fighter (series) was also on Master System, Mega Drive, Saturn and Dreamcast. WWF (series) was also on Master System, Mega Drive, Saturn and Dreamcast. Now here's a silly one. Fist of the North Star is *technically* on all four systems. It has games on Master System, Mega Drive and Saturn. On Dreamcast, no such release officially exists, but apparently SEGA made an arcade game that was unofficially ported to DC lol.
New here but joined specifically to add to this thread. Thought if a couple of series that are surprisingly prolific across many Sega platforms (although sadly not all platforms such as Pico, SG-1000 etc as per the original question) The series in question are: Fatal Fury Samurai Shodown Game Gear: Fatal Fury Special Master System: not officially but GG2SMS hack/port Megadrive: Fatal Fury & Fatal Fury 2 Mega CD: Fatal Fury Special 32X: no game Saturn: Fatal Fury Real Bout & Real Bout Special Dreamcast: Garou: Mark of the Wolves then for Samurai Shodown: Game Gear: Samurai Shodown Master System: no but maybe GG version ported? Megadrive: Samurai Shodown Mega CD: Samurai Shodown (different port to Megadrive version) 32X: no game Saturn: Samurai Shodown III & Samurai Shodown IV Dreamcast: not officially but Samurai Shodown VI ran on Atomiswave in the arcades & has been unofficially ported to Dreamcast. I am sure there are a few other series that span an impressive range of hardware generations. Will get my thinking cap on.
Shame there was no 32x based arcade hardware, that could have opened up the list a bit. My favourite is still the thread starter. Mortal Kombat II, literally the same game, ported to 5 different Sega consoles
Star Wars almost works SG-1000 - Space Mountain (unlicensed Star Wars clone) Master System - Star Wars Game Gear - Star Wars, Return of the Jedi Mega Drive - Super Star Wars (unreleased) Mega CD - Rebel Assault 32X - Star Wars Arcade Saturn - Rebel Strike (unreleased) Dreamcast - Episode 1 Pod Racer Star Trek also up there SC-3000 - Enterprise Escape (unlicensed) Game Gear - TNG: Advanced Holodeck Tutorial, Generations: Beyond the Nexus Mega Drive - TNG: Echoes from the Past, DS9: Crossroads of Time Mega CD - TNG: Echoes from the Past (unreleased) 32X - Starfleet Academy Starship Bridge Simulator Dreamcast - New Worlds (unreleased) Pac-Man SG-1000 - Pacar (Sega clone) SC-3000 - Munchman (unlicensed clone) Master System - Ms. Pac-Man, Pac-Mania Game Gear - Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Pac-Attack Mega Drive - Ms. Pac-Man, Pac-Mania, Pac-Attack, Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures Saturn - Pac-World (unreleased) Dreamcast - Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness, Namco Museum VMU - PAC-it (official), Mini Pac-Man (unofficial)
I can't believe the mega drive didn't get a single star wars game, there's star wars games on seemingly every computer ever made!
Hard mode: Can we work in the Laseractive/Mega LD? "Reika "Time Gal" Kirishima is a major character in the Shikigami No Shiro series. She first appeared in Shikigami no Shiro III, but was originally from the laserdisc arcade game known as Time Gal." Mega CD - Time Gal Laseractive Mega LD - Time Gal Saturn - Time Gal & Ninja Hayate Dreamcast - Shikigami No Shiro II I think that's probably as good as it will get... "Road Blaster is a Spiritual Successor to Cobra Command and in honor thereof the LX-3FX chopper makes a cameo in stages 2 and 5. The director of both games, Yoshihisa Kishimoto, went on to work on Double Dragon I. Repeating the vehicle cameo, the red car from Road Blaster is stationed in the garage of the Lee Brothers and has done so each game following." So Cobra Command, Road Avenger and Double Dragon are all part of the same universe. Master System - Double Dragon Game Gear - Double Dragon Mega Drive - Double Dragon, Double Dragon II, Double Dragon 3 Mega CD - Road Avenger/Blaster, Cobra Command/Thunder Storm Laseractive Mega LD - Road Blaster/Road Prosecutor Saturn - Thunder Storm & Road Blaster Impossible mode: What about the Mega CD 32-X "Alien Trilogy is an unreleased Mega-CD[1] and Mega-CD 32X[2] game based on the Alien franchise. Developed by Probe Entertainment[3] and scheduled to be published by Acclaim Entertainment in November 1994[4], the project was eventually moved to the Saturn[5] where it was released as Alien Trilogy in August 1996.[6]" Master System - Alien 3 Game Gear - Alien 3 Mega Drive - Alien 3 Mega-CD - Alien Trilogy (unreleased) Mega-CD 32X - Alien Trilogy (unreleased) Saturn - Alien Trilogy Dreamcast - Alien Resurrection (unreleased) and there were Aliens franchise games on the MSX, that possibly could have been ported to the SG-1000 (maybe?). There's like 100s of Korean and Taiwanese bootlegs
I'd be impressed if alien trilogy could be done on a mega cd, with 32x assistance or otherwise. Do we know how far they got with that?
Thought of another that almost works (later releases are part of the series rather than the same game) but a decent representation across hardware generations: NBA Jam Game Gear: NBA Jam Master System: playable prototype discovered Megadrive: NBA Jam & NBA Jam: Tournament Edition & NBA Hangtime Mega CD: NBA Jam 32X: NBA Jam: Tournament Edition Saturn: NBA Jam: Tournament Edition & NBA Jam: Extreme Dreamcast: NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC & NBA Hoopz
https://segaretro.org/Alien_Trilogy_(Mega-CD,_Mega-CD_32X) It was probably more marketing spin than anything concrete https://web.archive.org/web/20230916070329/https://www.gamesthatwerent.com/2012/02/alien-trilogy/ Here's a fun fact. Q*Bert was only on the SG-1000 and the Dreamcast, with no games on any systems in between. Might be the widest gap between games in the same franchise (if Q*Bert is considered a franchise)
Thought of another couple of series that span many of the hardware generations. One has been mentioned in the thread already - Hang-On but the other has t I don’t think - Golden Axe Hang-On series: SG-1000: Hang-On II Mk3: Hang-On Master System: Hang-On on both Card and Cartridge, also packaged with Safari Hunt or Astro Warrior and also built in to some models. Alongside this there was also GP Rider which was a kind of spin off. Game Gear: GP Rider (plus Master System games playable via adaptor) Megadrive: Super Hang-On Mega CD: N/A 32X: No but Hang-On bike makes Easter Egg appearance in AfterBurner Complete Saturn: Hang-On GP95 Dreamcast: Hang-On playable in both ShenMue & ShenMue 2. Also included in Yu Suzuki GameWorks Vol1 Golden Axe: Master System: Golden Axe & Golden Axe Warrior Game Gear: Ax Battler Megadrive: Golden Axe, Golden Axe II, Golden Axe III Mega CD: Golden Axe (included in Arcade Classics) 32X: No game Saturn: Golden Axe: The Duel Dreamcast: Golden Axe (included - with terrible sound emulation - in Sega Smash Pack Vol 1)
Super Dimension/Macross/Robotech kind of hits all the mainline systems SG-1000 - Orguss (aka Super Dimension Century Orguss) Master System - Transbot/Astro Flash (spiritual successor to Orguss) Mega Drive - Arrow Flash (spiritual successor to Transbot) Saturn - Macross: Do You Remember Love? Dreamcast - Macross M3
This is a good one as the Colecovision Star Wars games has been hacked to run on SG-1000 and both of those unreleased games have prototypes released, so this is the first series I've seen posted which is actually playable on every Sega system today.

Great stuff @doceggfan. I like the eccentric set of Star Wars games in particular, and the sneaky hang on easter egg for 32x. I originally started this because I was adding cheat codes for series of games on the wiki, I now have a great variety to experiment with :-)
Time Gal does not appear in Shikigami no Shiro II. As was previously quoted, she's from the third game.
Understood, but retroactively she now has a connection to the series, in the same way that she has a retroactive connection to Space Invaders. <.< >.> I'm clutching at straws here...
Doom goes far, if you count homebrew. There are source ports for Genesis and Dreamcast and official ports for 32X and Saturn. And since 3D raycasting is possible on the NES, it's likely possible on MS/GG as well, so a port could be done there too
If Wolfenstein 3D is in the same "franchise" as Doom, there is already a Master System port Now we just need to port it to Game Gear and get someone working on Doom for the Mega CD, preferably using some of those special sprite scaling hardware
