I always love seeing this stuff, and I think it is important to have a topic with them. Cartoon Network's new show, Regular Show has a SEGA Master System as a plot device. It's seen throughout the entire episode, but you only really get a good shot of it :32 seconds in. There's also House of Pain's "Jump Around" with the lyrics: "Try to play me out like, as if my name was Sega" at 2:19 In Futurama's "Spanish Fry" episode, Prof. Farnsworth exclaims, "What in the SEGA Genesis happened to you?" to Fry. I can't provide a clip, due to there not being one. I'd love to see the contributions that the rest of you have, gogogo.
In the South Park episode where they pretend to be the tooth fairy to get money, they are hoping to get money to save for a Sega Dreamcast http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/1518...-sega-dreamcast I also think this is the first time they ever referenced a real video game system in the show. Before they used names like Okama Gamesphere. Now they use real consoles. I think Cartman owns an Xbox 360
The movie Mallrats, repeatedly. Supposedly there was to be some form of promotional tie-up but shit never quite panned out. Austin Powers, the first one. Scott mentions bringing his "Sega" with him as the secret base is being evacuated.
Drew Carey had a Sega Saturn on top of his TV In the original Evangelion series, when Asuka gets all depressed and hangs out at Hikari's to avoid going home, she plays a "Seca" all day. The design of the console is pretty much a Saturn.
It's not really 'popular' but there's a thrash band called mutant who have a song called "Scrap Brain Zone" I think it's just in the title though, the lyrics don't seem to be relevant at all to Sonic. Also there's the couple of times Sonic's popped up in the Simpsons.
It's kinda funny how that works, that they can put the product into their show without any problem, as long as they don't use it's name. Also the TV in the bottom pic you posted totally looks like it just says "SEGA"
Couple of bands: Sludgefeast (many Sega refs, see link), Revenge of Shinobi (two bands have been named this).
In a Disney Channel Original Movie, "The Other Me", Andy Lawrence's character can be seen playing a Dreamcast. The logos are removed and taped over, though. At 8:38
There was a Sonic commercial at the beginning of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayne's_World_(film)#Video_games" target="_blank">Wayne's World.</a>
The other Simpsons one is in the episode 'Marge be not proud' when Bart is unsure as to whether he should steal a videogame, Mario, Donkey Kong and Sonic appear to 'reassure' him. To be honest, the Sonic appearence didn't hit me until I saw it a few times - he is purple, looks quite different, and darts around the screen loads.
EEEEEEVERYONE and their grandma knows this one, some of the only "in action" footage of Sonic 1 Beta... http://www.sonic-cult.org/dispart.php?cati...d=4&artid=9
Waitasec, Puyo Puyo Tsu in NGE? When I'm playing Tsu? Second to last level (Minitar/Draco Centaur)? Maybe I shouldn't have changed my avatar... (which I ripped from the original Puyo Puyo's MD ROM too... maybe it's too late...) I for one have yet to have noticed any cultural references to Sega shit in any media yet that I can remember... though I haven't actually done much along the lines of pop culture media nowadays :U But here's one from an iPhone app (when you see it you'll shit bricks?)
In the cancelled TV Show My Wife And Kids, in one of the episodes, Michael Kyle Jr. plays his Sega Dreamcast: There's also an episode of the cancelled TV show Malcolm In The Middle, Malcolm and his friend Steve plays... Sonic R in Malcolm's Sega Saturn! Unfortunately I don't remember which episode it was, since it was so long ago. Oh man, I love this thread! Jesus Christ!!
