This is an even bigger stretch. You realize the place they're pulling this whole "we'll trade exclusivity for funding" quote is the same source TSSZ is quoting - famitsu. The very same article even.

This isn't reporting, it's wild speculation and story-grabbing.

It would be great if Sega finished up the story with Shenmue III. It would be terrible to have to wait another 10 years for another sequel.

Wha? I don't remember anything about 16 chapters, but it's been a long time, so pardon me if I'm missing something obvious. What I do remember though, was the entire Shenmue series was originally a fucking long game with a crap load of discs on Saturn, and I was pretty sure that I read somewhere that the first and second thirds of the original concept had been turned into Shenmue I and II, with only the last third remaining.

Suzuki said in an interview that the story consists of 16 chapters.

    So far, it's basically:
    Chapter 1: Shenmue.
Chapter 2: Boat trip between Yokosuka and Hong Kong. Doesn't appear in-game, only mentioned at the beginning of Shenmue II.
Chapter 3: Shenmue II, Discs 1 and 2.
Chapter 4: Shenmue II, Disc 3.
Chapter 5: Shenmue II, Disc 4.

So, only 11 more chapters to go.

Holy crap, that is impressive. Unfortunately, it's also unlikely to happen.
