They just gave Nights away for free too. What the hell.

Gonna be lame as fuck if they opt for a subscription service rather than a compilation. Already too many of the latter around to justify paying for. Would much rather just pay once and have the thing.

Someone probably knew this was coming. Delisting doesn't remove it from your library; it just means its no longer available for purchase. So if they know its leaving stores in a month, give it away for free so as many people still holding out to add it to their library as possible will have access before its delisted.

  4. Yeah, Well said. I bet a little bored of the hysterical from some on the web. You can still perfectly play the digital versions in your home long after the delisting. One just can't buy them online but that is not much different from SEGA stop printing any new copies of physical games back in the classic days

People have had years to buy the games already and SEGA is giving fair warning of the takedown. I would guess there are various reasons why SEGA are doing this... down the sales are so low now SEGA isn't prepared to pay for the online store space for games or most prob is planning new remasters/versions to coincide with its updating of its classic IP.

Sorry but I'm not defending SEGA here. Delisting titles is stupid.

It'll be mitigated if they are (as I suspect) planning to rerelease these games in another format some time soon and want to clear house to prevent confusion, but its still wildly bad PR for them to do this unilaterally. And I'm sick of seeing legacy titles on the Xbox store with the note "This title is unavailable at this time". Damnit, maybe I want to play the 360 version of TF2 on my Xbox Series S!

I know Shinobi is special because we know it's getting a new game, but if even Sega Ages aren't safe, I really should also get Phantasy Star 1 on Switch at the same time. Congratulations, Sega, you've gotten me to buy the entire classic Phantasy Star series all at once.

  8. I’m glad I bought all of the AGES releases. Very odd that they’d bother delisting this though. Even if a new game is releasing, I don’t think the AGES release would have a negative impact. If anything, I have a feeling the AGES game would pick up more sales once the new one comes out.

I’m definitely glad I got it, because that was by far the best way to play the original shinobi imo. I genuinely can’t figure out why though…. As far as I’m aware Sega still has a relationship with M2 otherwise their other stuff would’ve been delisted. It simply has to be because of the new game, I can’t understand any other option.
Guess I got a couple more AGES games I gotta get now, as I’ve held off for a while.

EDIT: I have no idea if this is true, but I saw people mentioning you can still buy it if you have a PAL or JP eshop account. If that’s the case, why only NA? Could anyone check this out if they are willing?

    Just happened:

Sega had said they were going to remove a bunch of stuff like Sega Genesis Collection, but I never heard anything about NiGHTS being delisted. What a huge bummer, even if this wasn't the best version of NiGHTS. It doesn't deserve to be forgotten, NiGHTS should be always on sale.

It's odd not to have Christmas NiGHTS on sale at Christmas.

But it'll be back. They'll repackage it as something and get you to buy it again.

It was confusingly part of the Dreamcast Collection, which also delisted, save for Adventure 1 and 2.

Gonna merge this into the existing thread, but yeah, it was a weird case of finding out a bit later that a variety of other games would be vanishing too.

I hope they find a way to bring back all the mega drive games. There were quite a few in that pack that aren't getting a fancy remaster or sequel any time soon that will just go back to being unavailable.

Not that Sega will see it as their problem but it hurts modding as well because you lose that easily accessible 'official version'. Sonic 3 A.I.R. used the steam release as a base for example. And I know that people can find these things easily enough if they particularly want to, but it still hurts useability.

  16. When looking at the console side of things, this is a pretty weird thing for SEGA to do. As I said before, the Genesis collection has a widely available physical release.

Weird that it's an Xbox One disc, considering that Virtua Fighter 2 on Xbox One was a backwards compatible title from the 360. I feel like, if they really wanted to, this could have been the last 360 title.

  19. Horrible that Limited run scum is being allowed to handle a lot of SEGA collectors edition of late and clothing

Man this sucks. I was hoping that we’d see a new collection but if these games really did get delisted for LRG releases that’s a real shame. Still hoping they’re doing more with them than just this though. Also I feel like spending an entire Blu-ray Disc on a single XBLA port is a waste of space, would have been better if they had put all of the arcade ports on it (alongside the DC collection).
