Delisting Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi should be criminal.

Sega is probably gonna launch some subscription BS.

I can see absolutely no tactical reason to delist NiGHTs. There's no way they'll actually end up making a new port and putting that anywhere. This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.

This is the strangest timing for an already pretty unpleasant decision. Surely they'd at least wait until after the winter gift-giving sales periods??

Unless they're planning on making a new collection of stuff, this decision is baffling. And bad. No matter what, this is bad.

If they were making a new collection, they would announce it first. Such a collection, including all of these games and the LaD emulations, would be great.

The Mega Drive Classics collection was a lovely way to relive those games. There are some top-class titles in there that are totally worth playing even today. I liked that it was possible to pick up titles individually. Big fan here of only buying what I actually want to play.

Weird that they're delisting Sonic the Fighters and Virtua Fighter 2 on Xbox, but not Fighting Vipers.

I can't imagine the reason why they would delist them all, from Genesis up to Dreamcast, I think the subscription theory is the most plausible. But even then, I'd think something like the Sega Ages line on Switch would be targeted as well. Thankfully, I own most everything I want, just need Phantasy Star II/III/IV on Steam.

These probably all need better documentation on Sega Retro. Often there's more to it than "Sega re-released an old game" - there can be slightly different content and gameplay tweaks, not to mention a brand new front-end.

They're the sort of releases that are dismissed because "guh old games lol", and sure, only a subset of a subset is going to care about bog-standard Columns, but it's still important.

    Long-term happiness
DRM strikes again in making an intangible theoretically limitless good non-existent. The sole saving grace is all of these have physicals on their original formats.

    The return?

I had this growing up. It was awesome. They’re obviously planning something. As an adult I don’t really like digital games but it’d be so cool if they created a subscription service and called it Sega Channel. That’s exactly what it was. Use the same logo with a wireless controller, remove those scan lines on the tv and model the menus after how they looked. Perfect nostalgia.

Is it finally time for the return of gametap chaotix. This may be the only thing that can budge my opinion on this being terrible

  14. I have doubts that there's gonna be a subscription service.

    1. Gaming subscription services have shown themselves to be a "first parties only" thing. I'm not sure if someone who's already paying $19.99 a month for Gamepass will be willing to lay down some more cash for another service.

    2. I feel that SEGA's non-Sonic games are too niche (in the western market, at least) to really attract a big crowd of subscribers.

    3. If you want a SEGA subscription service, we already have NSO's selection of Genesis games.

DRM didn't do anything but be there here. It's not the DRM's fault SEGA is willingly and purposefully removing games from sale, but it's not (yet?) A Securom situation where you then need an actual crack to play the copy of Sims 2 you bought physically. You can still buy these games and play them later, other people will just be unable to buy them at the same time you're able to play them.

I wonder if the PS3 versions of any of these titles are included? Their initial listing doesn't specify that. While it could be an oversight (the PS3's version of PSN isn't exactly top of mind these days), I believe Sega did specify that the classic Sonic games on PS3 were being delisted ahead of Origins' release.

Going off of the delistings for Xbox and PlayStation, it seems only PS4 titles are going to be affected here. Of which there's only one, Sega Genesis Classics.

Considering Sega's extremely long and storied history of cramming mountains of games into compilations once every generation-ish, I'm gonna assume they're doing it again.

I just don't understand this decision, aren't there new Crazy Taxi, JSR, and Shinobi reboots right around the corner? Don't you want these available for people once they've played the new games to impulse buy the old ones? Am I taking crazy pills or something. I can't wait to never see these post-genesis games ever again, cause that's all Sega seems to give a shit about.

Considering the reboots would potentially invoke nostalgia to the point where people would rather just play the originals, that could be their angle. These new games are very likely to cost significantly more than any of the games delisted. SxSG shows they want higher prices on legacy games.
