I fail to see how being mainly positive about that awful show can 'redeem' anything. But maybe that's just me.

Highschool Ben said on the forums that he hated it, so it would only bring more complaints.

It is just you, and anyone who agrees with you is lying.

I LOVED SatAM growing up. It was the coolest Sonic cartoon ever. I like it better than any of them. The only possible way I could see anyone not liking it is if they are from a different generation of Sonic fandom and didn't grow up with the show.

...actually, I grew up with it, and I can't say as I like it anymore, either.

I mean, if you like it, then fine, whatever, but going as far to say as anyone who hates it is lying...

SATAM was an okay show back then, it just was too serious. I enjoyed AoSTH a lot more, maybe it's because it was funny and still decent today. Oh and it wasn't serious either.

I actually did see it during my childhood, and the theme is still very nostalgic for me. It's not a generation gap or anything. It just utterly ignores everything that Sonic is and was, which really irks me.

    - Sonic as a wandering hero? No, he's tied down to a single place.
    - Sonic fighting oppression? Only one type. He's quite happy to prop up a monarchy.
    - Bright, colourful landscapes? Nope, dull forests and dark mechanical cities. Managed to get the 'drama is brown' thing before Gears Of War was a glint in the milkman's eye.
    - Generic robots? That's right, folks. The Egg Pawns were beaten to it as well! No interesting badnik designs here, except maybe that bird thing that Robotnik keeps.
    - Any relation to the games whatsoever? Apart from the presence of Sonic, Tails and Robotnik, none whatsoever.

I also grew up with the Fleetway comics, and one of the reasons I think they were so successful was that they utilised the source material well. Even outside of game adaptations, stories were regularly set on Angel Island, in the Green Hill, Casino Night or Metropolis Zone, and so on. Even the created characters weren't partly robotised southern rabbits or walruses, but simply slightly more anthropomorphised versions of the animals that popped out of the robots.
Heck, AOSTH was closer to the regular formula, in that it had colourful, surreal landscapes and a variation of the classic Sonic tune. It even had versions of enemies from the games as the main antagonists, albeit with modified designs.

Why then, did SatAM get it so utterly wrong in this respect?

I have to agree with FinalBeyond here with the Fleetway Comics, I only have a couple of them. But I grew up with them and they paid tribute to the classic games a lot, I think what I found amazing was even when Sonic had changed style When Adventure came out, they kept old Classic Sonic until the comic shut down.

Well, the oldest Comic I have is when they awaken that Dragon(if memory serves correct) and Johnny is taken by it or something? Not entirely sure.

SatAM was Sonic Syndrome before Takashi Iizuka ever got in the director's position. The tone was completely off, all the characters from the games look wrong, the other characters don't fit the style at all, Sonic's only characterization was that he liked chili dogs.

And remember before it was canceled: Eggman had been replaced as the big bad just before the end. That's no good.

I actually never saw SatAM on TV when I was growing up. AoStH was on all the time, and I even caught bits of Sonic Underground when it was on, but not once have I ever seen a single episode of SatAM. I was never horribly into that continuity of the series anyway, so I don't feel like I missed out on much.

    Also, Sonic and Sally frenching.

I grew up with both AoSth and SatAM. SatAM was awesome back then, but now today when I try to rewatch it it's like "ehhh...."

Still a great cartoon, very well put together.

The Sonic cartoon I grew up with was Sonic Underground. Entertaining while a child, but now the singing bugs the hell outta me. I only learned about SatAM and AoStH when I was skimming through channels boredly. I only took one glance at Robotnik in SatAM and I actually though it was just a rip-off Sonic Underground until I learned it came first. Go Figure.

AoStH was lame. Not funny at all, and unlike SatAM that was its only draw.

I hope you're being sarcastic. I'll make you eat them words. Sonic does not work well as a serious dark Children's cartoon.

See I don't look into that stuff like that. Yeah it's different from the games, but it was SONIC. And it was dark and serious, with occasional humor. It made for the kind of cartoon that I really wanted to watch. I enjoyed funny stuff like Eek the Cat, but I also frequented X-Men, Spider-Man, and other more serious, action-packed stuff. I didn't want to see something bright and colorful that was overly happy and silly.

    Yeah, you're a liar. Liar. =P

AoStH was my fave and still is, satAM is ok but only as a spin off, nothing else.

When it comes to sonic I find funny > serious
