Has anyone made a hack that fits Sonic 3 & Knuckles into a smaller space than 4MB? A lot of the data is redundant when the two games are locked-on.

You could make it even smaller if you cut out Sandopolis because nobody needs that =P

Why would you cut out one of the best levels in the game?

I don't think anyone has, I've never seen it.
They should cut out the S&K credits theme and put in Sonic 3's, though.

No, I am not working on any hack, fanart, or website.
Why? I don't think S3's credits theme is better than the S&K one.

Writing my own MD/Genesis sound driver :D
You could get it smaller by removing the paddings. The only problems are the music (the music files must be at specific addresses due to the pointer system used) and the beginning of Sonic 3 (as Sonic & Knuckles checks at address 0x200000 for its lock-on ROM). I can get Sonic & Knuckles down a fair bit, though.

Perhaps then it could finally be released as intended by Sega.

Er, if you're hacking S3&K to remove redundant stuff, I assume you'd also fix the addresses accordingly, so the "everything must be where it was" excuse doesn't apply really...

Y'know how nearly every game has that one level that is so high on the arseometre that the mere thought of it makes you not play the game?

o hai Sandopolis! Nice of you to join us!

With Stealth's S&K dissasembly that shouldn't be a problem. If it's not done yet it's simply because... it would be too much effort for a result that wouldn't really be technically stunning :P

11. I remember in the Little Hacks thread that Hivebrain was shrinking Sonic 1, and got to around 450KB.

I believe the main reason he's asking is because he wants to play it on a DS emulator. At least, someone was asking on IRC about that recently...

It's honestly a mistake to emulate anything on the DS. NES and GB work alright, but that's about it. SNES and MD end up fairly broken graphics-wise, and in some cases whole games don't work. For emulation one is probably best off getting a PSP or one of those GamePark systems (I hear those are pretty good for emulators).

It's not a 'mistake', because some people, like me, either can't afford another handheld to emulate on, or just don't want to have another. I got my flash cart for a mere 20 dollars, and even if it's not perfect, it does the job just fine for what it is.

Though the GP2X is a good system if your main goal is portable emulation, it DOES go for around $100 on eBay, when you can actually find it.

I like it more than I used to. Hated it as a kid, it doesn't bother me as much now. Mainly because I know what can be realistically done and what CAN'T in the hell that is Act 2 =P

Wow, off topic.

Varion Icaria is trying to do this. Just something I thought I'd mention.
