Roger Craig Smith and Kate Higgins are the new Sonic and Tails VAs

Or hating Samuel L. Jackson because he spoke 3 words per episode of Afro Samurai.

 

As you all know, Sega has changed all the voice actors for the new sonic games. What do you think of the new voices? More specifically what do you think of Sonic's new voice? I like it quite frankly. He is no longer emotionless and his new voice gives him a funnier and much more interesting personality. I think Sonic's voice works exceptionally well in Sonic Colors whereas in previous games, his voice was wooden and the dialog along with it.

Since the only game the new voices are in so far is Colors, I don't see why we need a separate thread for it.

I suppose its hard for new people comming in, we got most of our discussion about stuff like this out ages ago, then when they try to talk about it alot of people fall into "where were you?" mode XD

 

I will just say this.

People like Roger Craig Smith are killing American voice overs. When company's hire these no-talent Anime dubbers, they take room for real talented people who actually have range.

Roger just speaks the words written on the page with no feeling at all. Just another dead weight voice actor for Sonic the Deadhog.

 

Sonic Free Riders does not exist as far as I'm concerned. Also, I forgot about it.

 

Okay, this has been bugging me for years and I don't care that it's off-topic: what the hell does tone deafness have to with anything except the ability to distinguish differences in pitch? Oh, that's right. Jack fucking shit. Roger Craig Smith could sing in five octaves for all I care, it has nothing to do with his acting ability.

Anyway, voices. Since I don't have Free Riders (who does?) I'll list my thoughts as I go through the YouTube videos linked above.
Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Blaze are pretty good. Silver sounds about the same, I guess...? I dunno, you can't really blame me for not remembering any of the other games he was in. Shadow sounds like an old man. Rouge has the right sort of voice, but the acting is pretty exaggerated. Cream still sucks. Amy gives me a headache.

The only new voice I have complaints about is Amy's. The rest are either good, or at least better than their predecessors (such as Cream and Vector). Silver sounds the same but...somehow less annoying. Blaze and Rouge's voices are great, Sonic's took some getting used to at first but I like it now, and Tails I liked from the start. Knuckles isn't very different, but it's the same situation as with Silver. Shadow's voice is fine but he has a bit of a weird accent that shouldn't be there. Espio's is fitting (and would have made a nice Shadow voice), and Charmy's ain't bad either.

But Amy... it hurts my head just thinking about it. Friggin' Minnie Mouse.

 

There are plenty of great anime voice actors, Roger has also worked on loads of games also

I thought Roger did pretty well, besides its not asif the story allowed for alot of deep emotions, he did use range, but no matter what he was always cocky and upbeat.

Besides, all the REAL (as you put it) talented people, don't do alot of game and anime voicework, they are to busy being thespians in the theatre.... well accept mabye Patrick Stuart, he dose EVERYTHING

 

Amy sounds like Minnie Mouse...

The rest of them don't sound that bad, except for Jet and Storm.

I went back to playing 06 today, after listening to all the FR cutscenes and playing through Colours. It's so hard to listen to the 4Kids cast now, and I didn't even have a problem with them before. Except Amy. Not gonna forget how brilliant her 4Kids VA is compared to the new Studiopolis one.

 

To be honest, I was going to draw a good picture of Silver saying that, but I resisted...
Maybe later on once I get in the mood to draw.

Someone doesn't know the difference between English and American English. The dude's in the UK; it's spelt with an 's' over here. Just saying; if you're going to be a spelling nazi, at least do it right. =P

On-topic: Loving the new VA's; well, the ones I've heard in the Wii version of Colours, anyway. Sonic has a bit of a deeper voice that took some getting used to, but generally comes off well. Tails sounds better than ever; Kate Higgins does an awesome job on this. Mike Pollock is good as ever as Eggman. I think the writing really helps too - Sonic having some actual attitude and brotherly banter with Tails does wonders for both characters - but the performances all seem very well directed too. Hopefully they can keep at this standard or higher in future games. = )

And although the new writers made Orbot more of a henchman than assistant and he's not as sassy anymore (what happened to 'ergo'?), his new voice voice is really good. When it came to robots, 4Kids only ever made them sound like generic robots. With the new cast their personalities carry right through. Really well done.

 

If it's a Quinton Flynn quote, shouldn't it match HIS nationality? :P

Much as I thought he was awesome as Axel, I'll always think of him first as Reno. Of course, Reno the hedgehog WOULD be a kickass fanart for somebody more talented than me to make. I would just fuck it up.
