Agreed, it might've been better if they'd stayed with Silver's prototype name, Venice. *shrugs* But I never said Robotnik was a force to be reckoned with or someone to take seriously. I'm just saying Robotnik attributes to the fact that he builds Robots. lol. :v:

It's both, thanks to the handy retcon in Sonic Adventure 2 where Robotnik became his real name, and Eggman his alias.

    Now everyone can stop bitching.

It's a topic of preference, though. And I saw no bitching. :colbert:

You know, I don't care one way or the other. I say Eggman normally, but I really don't care at all. If I'm tlaking about the Eggams from AOSTH or Satam, I say Robotnik.

But more importantly, it's a complete matter of opinion. I do like the name "Eggman Empire" a lot more "Robotnik Land" or "Eggman Land". But again, a matter of opinion.

Personally I use Eggman, however I voted for "Who ACTUALLY cares?". Both names are recognized as canon on both, the Japanese and the Western side - Eggman being used over here (nickname-ish), Robotnik being used in Japan (Gerald and Maria in SA2) -, so I don't really see the point in any argument coming up. One might prefer Robotnik because he/she grew up with it on the MD/Genesis, or one might prefer Eggman because he/she only became a Sonic fan post-SA (like in my case, despite the first game I've playing being Sonic 3). Yeah, pointless post as all this was already stated, but what the hell :P

Judging by the direction this topic is heading (aka Eggman and robotnik claims only), I feel that this picture merit's some truth:

The only Robotnik worthy of the name Robotnik is AOSTH Robotnik.

He's better than all of the other Robotniks or Eggmans because of one thing.

    He's got an personality.

I refer to him as Dr. Eggman because that's his nickname (Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik), similar to how Tails isn't really his name, but just his nickname as well (Miles "Tails" Prower). By the way if this has already been said, sorry, I stopped reading posts after the first page =P

That would be the Archie series Robotnik in his early life.

    Also interesting to note:

I prefer him as Robotnik, since that's what I grew up with and all, but I find myself referring to him as Eggman almost exclusive these days, and only ever opt for the former when I'm feeling especially pedantic. But then, I've grown somewhat fond of the moniker over the years- it evokes a certain air of class, and it reminds me of the aliases you'd generally associate with totally hardcore hacker-type folks, like Joybubbles. You just need to learn to think of it less as a "Hurr hurr my name is Eggman 'cuz I look like an egg" affair, and more like "I am the Eggman.", y'know?

I prefer Robotnik, I just think it sounds cooler. But I usually say Eggman out of habit; when I first played SA2, I didn't realize that Eggman was Robotnik, as my last contact with Sonic had been the SatAM cartoon. (I also assumed that Gerald Robotnik was the Robotnik from the old games, because he was the only Robotnik I saw) Then I realized that Eggman = Robotnik and Gerald was a completely new character

I'll refer to Robotnik when saying AOSTH Robotnik, why? He is a unique character in my opinion compared to the games, probably since AOSTH is not really meant to be taken seriously and you can't really take Robotnik serious either.

I have to say, I prefer Robotnik a shit-load more than Eggman.

Reason? I'm used to that name. I've grown up with the name.

On similar note, I've noticed on this thread that a few people seem to think that SA2 first used the Eggman AND Robotnik names together. I'd like to correct those people right now and say that it was the FIRST Sonic Adventure that used both names in conjunction. The second game used ONLY the Eggman suffix, and the rest of the games followed suit in this respect.

Ironically, I like to think it's Robotnik. Ever since I was a kid that's what I was told it was, then SA came and slowly killed the name. Eggman's not bad, Robot-nik makes more sense condersidering he made bad-niks.

Exactly my take on this. I'll never be used to the name Eggman.
But I also think that both names are good and right, I just would like that the name Robotnik would still be used a little more

The way I see it, it sounds silly when he calls himself Eggman. Eggman seems more like a goofy nickname that Sonic and Tails would call him, just like they did in that one episode of AoStH. I grew up with Robotnik, but either name is fine for me. =\

The way I see it, Eggman may have been an insult towards him, but he's managed to turn it round into a name that he can use, and they can't alter. I mean, Sonic can mock him with "Ro-butt-nik", or whatever, but how do you insult a man who calls himself Eggman? It's rather difficult to do. :p
