I voted either way, but I find myself calling him Eggman alot due to it's simplicity (And when I say Robotnik, I find myself adding "Dr. Ivo" way too much, adding to the length) and the fact that really, either name works. I don't care if it sounds stupid, Sonic was never serious in the first place. And like Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles aren't weird names.

His name is Dr. Ivo Robotnik. That's what I grew up with and it sounds a lot better than Eggman. Also Eggman sounds more like an insult. Essentially, Robotnik calls himself what Sonic says to make fun of him, at least after Sonic Adventure 1.

Dr. Eggman. It's better. Or even Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik, for technicality.

By 16 Bit player, I assume you mean one that never saw Wing Fortress, then?

Although I don't really care about its use, I prefer Robotnik since I remember he used to be a more serious villain when he was primarily under that time. Ever since they switched it to Eggman, he's become a very goofy, bumbling buffoon... and not in the AoSTH sense. It's always using some sort of mythical creature or device that ultimately screws him over until Super Sonic cleans its clock. Then he repeats it all over again.

And now for something different: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDrK4gzFZoQ

"My name is Dr. Ivo Robotnik, and I hate hedgehogs!"

AoSTH is my influence. End of!

P.S. I voted for 'Who ACTUALLY cares' cause I though it would be funny.

I prefer Robotnik, but I refer to him as Eggman because that's what they're calling him nowadays

What is with you guys trying to say that when Eggman was known as "Robotnik" that he was a more serious villain? Eggman was as goofy as can be in the earlier games, despite whatever threatening schemes he came up with. How about that cartoonish look on his face when he runs? How about that stupid look on his face when he gets hit? How about the fact that whenever Sonic kicks the shit out of Eggman he never breaks a sweat and fucks with him hardcore?

Eggman was never a villain to be taken seriously—that's why he was called Eggman. The first time he was called Dr. Eggman in the states is when he was associated with perhaps being a serious villain, and that's where it sort of broke the trend. Eggman was always a goof, and never actually posed a serious threat at any point in time—at least not with Sonic around.

  15. In Sonic 2? That's 16-bit...

Also I forgot to mention my choice was also partly due to the fact that I grew up with "Robotnik". That walrus-looking man with the checkered ball was Dr. Robotnik.

    No, no, no, no.

You clearly misunderstood. What FinalBeyond means is that EGGMAN is written on the side of the Wing Fortress. Observe: Clicky!

NOTE: Link to the pic doesn't work. Click link and scroll down to the Wing Fortress pic. (Sonic 2. 3rd Row. 2nd from left.)

This. I fail to see how anyone can call someone who's brilliant plan to destroy their enemy is to shield themselves with air bubbles a "serious villain" Ganondorf Is a good example of a serious villain. Ganondorf has possessed Zelda and used her to attempt to kill Link because he's just that evil, stolen the most powerful part of the most powerful artifact and used it to become the king of evil, and shrugged of being impaled through the chest. meanwhile, Eggman builds a sorta giant robot that has bumpers where you would expect there to be weapons.

Also, some epic lulz on this page:

  19. Ahh right. Well I'm fine with that; it's only a piece of background art, afterall. I mean, he's even referred to as Dr. Robotnik in the European game manuals. I'm fine with Eggman being a nickname, but I don't like the idea of it being 'phased in' to replace Robotnik.

It wasn't phased in to replace Robotnik. Sega were just correcting the bizarre localisation that occured in the manuals. Wing Fortress shows that in the games themselves, Eggman was the name he chose.
