    Beats me.
Oh Sonic Cult, the first time I ever came to the realization that there was, in fact, porn of Sonic and the gang. Rule 34 before I even knew what it was. Of course I never dared click on it, but that's basically one of the few memories I have of the site.

    Rest in PHP.

Cult and Area 51 will always be in my memories...When I was a young dumbass and said stupid things... those were the days.

Used to visit the Cult, SSRG and SFGHQ back in '02-'04 when I was in highschool.

Good times. Times of wonder and awe.

Wasn't around much in the formative years due to being a dumb child and getting banned a couple of times, but I met several people there who I still call friends today and eventually found a home there for a while. Despite how dead it got, it was always fun to just check in on the forum and see who, if anyone, had stopped by to say something.

Pour one out for the CulT

I know what you mean. Even though I didn't join the community until a few years later, I first discovered the scene circa 2000, and learning about all the beta and unused stuff in the games via the SSRG's subsites (mainly Area 51) blew my mind back then, haha.

Due to my personal views on Cult, and the fact that I didn't start frequenting it until later (and never even bothered joining its forums), I can't really say that I remember it as fondly as the old SSRG. But hey, everyone's nostalgia is different, and I have to give Cult credit for being more "professional" (relatively speaking) and less blog-like than Area 51.

    Internet.
I remember finding CulT when I was 11 or 12, and it seemed so seedy and dark and adult and honestly intimidated me. I felt like I found some deep, secret corner of the internet that I didn't belong in.
Of course now I realize it was just a bunch of dudes talkin bout videogames. I think I briefly posted there when I was ripping models from Sonic Riders, years ago.
Anyway, RIP, right alongside sws2b and glowing bridge.

It was both in my opinion. I stayed there because I felt like I didn't belong anywhere else. Still don't feel like I fully fit in here at Retro.

Holy hell this is a lot to process. On one hand, I haven't been there in years. On the other, this was a huge community and part of my adolescence, dating back to 2002. So many discoveries and points of research came from CulT and SCARZ. Plus shenanigans. And Alice.

    Whoa, Sonic CulT.

The last time I even reminded of the name was when those Running on Empty videos came out a few years ago. CulT, along with SoSTH and SWS2B, is probably the reason why I enjoy data-mining, game research, prototypes, preservation and everything else pertaining to it all. I remember back in 2002 (though I seem to recall earlier) when I was searching for all sorts of Sonic news and stuff, and one day I encountered the site out of the blue. I was blown away by all the different sections of media, sprite assets and everything prototypical accumulated of all the Sonic games up to that point (especially all that SA1 stuff). There's a preview video of Sonic Heroes I uploaded that came from Cult that predated the official announcement, IIRC. The owner was once a Sega tester too, right?

Oh well. Cheers for natural selection.

Being the same age as you were, that was my impression of Cult too. I do remember the forums not being friendly places to be in either. lol

  17. Man, I'm heartbroken about this, but alas over time I did make the leap over to here.

CulT was my home. I have several memories of humour to add in my early University days on it. From the TF2 social nights with PPA, SSUK, Nova, Franz; The thread of deprivation, the UK Politics thread including hitting Nick Clegg on the head with a placard saying "DEPLOY THE CLEGG" (of which, earned myself CulT Family status. Cheers OL! =P).

The website was notorious. Edgy for damn sure. But my gosh did it set stick out because of it. When other forums were full of list threads, fan characters and shit theories (even this place to some degree in it's way earlier years); if there's one thing I credit CulT for it is that it certainly felt like it made a community of maturity via immaturity. Some how. It's nice to see that some of these standards have spilled into other communities.

Also props for the Sonic Advance 2 beta. holy shit that was hilarious. And the keep and doom! And Dusthillguy / Monsquaz! There's so many memories there.

Their is no way to save the site at all? even as a archive?! Man I grew up on this site, I found Retro thanks to Saz banning me at 1 point. I was still posting there! and it has a ton of history in it's combined forums, we can't lose that as a community we already lost SSMB and part of Retro's history through forum wipes.

Btw, shocking reveal but I was Zeck, Hi. the original Zeck left ages ago and gave me his account after Saz banned me, we used to talk on MSN Messenger he thought Classic Sonic wouldn't ever come back and the series had no future that and the community was absolutely poison at the time it was doing a number on his head. I hope he's doing alright out there.
