I'm sure many of you have heard of the Retrode (formerly snega2usb). Well a few days ago I finally got mine! I love it so much. Now I can dump all of my Genesis carts (and I can even play the ROMs right off the cart). Check out a few photos I took: http://picasaweb.google.com/NTICompass/Retrode
I have been following this for a while. Nice to see it really works! This should work on any Emulator for those consoles. You tried it on anything else besides your computer?
It appears as a generic USB flash drive, so it should work on anything with a USB port that can run a Genesis or SNES emulator. On the Retrode site, there is a video of someone using it on a Wii. I've only used it on my PC. It cost me $90 ($80 + $10 shipping), but it's so worth it. Now I need to get SNES carts, I don't own any.
Wow, that's a neat little fuckin' gadget. I've been wanting to buy a Genesis-to-USB adapter, and this would be awesome to go with it. To own the actual cart and play with an actual controller, but emulated. Which is actually perfect, because my TV doesn't really work well with anything other than VGA or HDMI. D:
I'll be in on this as soon as he starts selling again. I want an MD dumping utility like this, especially one that's so flexible in what it runs on. Fuck, even my MP4 PLAYER can read stuff from this!
He's even adding more stuff to this little guy. You can connect (S)NES controllers to it, he made an Atari 2600 adapter. He may even add N64 support!
Well, fuck. I need one now. I don't have any Genesis carts, and my SNES doesn't have any real sentimental value because I got it from a yard sale. But being able to back up my N64 saves would be fantastic.
64DD? Famicom Disk System? Dreamcast GD-ROM? Satellaview 8M Memory Packs? ... ok, sorry, being evil there.
According to the Retrode site, he will open an online store next week or so. http://www.retrode.org/wordpress/2010/02/user-stories/
Hmm, I'm assuming it supports PAL SNES carts too? Very interesting. Might pick one up when I have some spare cash :D
That's the kicker, isn't it =P I intend on picking one of these up, but I can't justify it with the amount of games that have come out this last month. Maybe in April.
Man... I wish I knew this was going to exist before I broke my ass trying to find a SNES diskette copybox (eventually got Bung's "Game Doctor SF7") to try and dump a prototype SNES Sparkster cartridge... And it didn't even work for some reason... Granted that was over 3 years ago, and the cart is no longer in my possession nowadays... so yeah. Too bad =\
Currently waiting for my Retrode to arrive in the mail now. Anyone had any problems running carts beyond those listed on the Retrode site? UPDATE: it arrived Had a little trouble fitting some JAP carts that were wider than average, but so far I've managed to successfully dump everything I have will no trouble.
