Old content of this post here

Hi, I've posted about this game here before, I've just retaken the quiz and thought this would be a good time to show this again.

Anyways, Sonic XG is gonna be a fangame that directly continues the story from the end of S3K, in pure retro style. It will feature 10 zones, 8 with 2 acts, 2 with 1 act

    ??? ??? Zone - Secret/surprise intro zone

Final Fall Zone - Set on the floating island, the ruins of the Death hurtling towards it from space. In Act 2 the Death Egg explodes and you must run accross the island as it crumbles and falls apart. (screens are an engine test zone using act1's grpahics)
    [IMG] [IMG]
    [IMG] [IMG]

    These 2 shots are ingame:
    [IMG] [IMG]

Peak Panic Zone - You fall from the crumbling floating island to the icey peaks below. The layout of the first 1/2 of act 1 is below, click to see 25% full size.

Wood Works Zone - A huge water powered factory in a forest/wood, powered by water wheels and the like.

Palm Paradiso Zone - Green Hill tribute of sorts, typical sonic paradise zone. (screens of this zone are mockups using ingame gfx)
    [IMG] [IMG]
    [IMG] [IMG]

Desert Dash Zone - Inspired by dust hill/desert zone's graphics, it will be a desert level featuring pyramid sections that work like the interior sections of Launch Base Act 1/Flying Battery. (Screen is mockup)

Cosmic Chasm Zone - Teleported from a pyramid, your hugh above the planet on a huge comet/asteroid or something, with beams that will toggle your gravity. (screens are mocks)
    [IMG] [IMG]

Golden Gate Zone - Back down to the planet, your above a huge city, and work your way down into the main part of it in Act 2, complete with casinoey sections. (screens are mocks).
    [IMG] [IMG]

Chaos Central Zone - The final zone persay, SXG's answer to death egg (and partly inspired by the discovery of the genocide city/machine link/discovery thing), these screens are from a very early test of the layout, excuse the lack of rings/springs/enemies etc
    [IMG] [IMG]

The game will be completed and released this year.

EDIT: Oh yeah, theres a secret zone after Chaos Central obviously. =P

    Hi Guys

    click it!

Footage of sonic in final fall act 1 and knuckles in 2. Music is the boss theme "rooting for the bad guy".

Here is a video featuring OLD footage of the peak panic boss, it is quite buggy (note ring loss and the bottom right of the background) but it does have the classic style boss music, go nuts! Please don't judge the final game based on this though, it's around 1 year old footage.

    Very very nice!

Is this a rom hack or is it made with something else?
Asking due to the "PRESS FIRE1".

It's made in MMF2, don't worry it plays very well like a mix of Sonic 3k and Sonic CD, not your standard crappy fangame.

How many times did I tell you I'll kidnap you and use your graphism skills in Sonic Dash? Yeah, only once, this this is the 2nd time. Anyway, mockups are a no-no, I want the real thing right now!

Forgot to say, Nitemare from sfghq is working along with me on this game, we're a dynamic duo! Also, the game's zones will now be split into 3 acts instead of 2.

This is freaking awesome!! The graphics look similar to those of chaotix! My only suggestion is that you change the arms of this running sprite of Sonic to match how he runs in S1-S3K. Other than that, this completely owns Sega's new Sonic games.

Nothing that concerns this place in the least.
Wow, just... wow. The graphics in this game are just... unbelievable. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to say the same for the gameplay as well. I'll definitely be checking back regularly, until this is released.

My god, that's beautiful. You know, let alone to have the time to do all this, I think would be unbelievable. Cosmic Chasm, and Desert dash are some of the finest pieces of work I've laid eyes on. Simply brilliant.

Mockup screenshots or not, that's sex! I dunno about having "PRESS FIRE1" on the title screen though, perhaps having the name of the actual key(s)?

That is made of brilliance and awesome. I may be a color whore but I just love the level of detail you achieved when not crippled by a pallete.

Can't wait to see this in action.

But Fire1 can be any key or joypad button, it depends how you set it up (fire 1 is used to select things in menus and things A/B/C would do in the megadrive games)

Could you make it so the game detects what button is set to "FIRE1" and it shows the name of that button instead?

This looks like it could be a 32X game, that would be impressive almost beyond belief. And I wonder how close you could get to this on the Genesis with clever use of palettes and dithering. As a PC game... it's still pretty awesome.

I was wondering this too. A lot of those graphics could be put into a ROM pretty easily.

Some of the foregrounds maybe, but you'll definetly lose alot of detail in the backgrounds. The color count on the Tails image in Final Fall Zones tops at 464 colors. After removing the Hud elements and the Tails sprite, it comes up to a total of 166 colors used. Reduced to 64 and we get something like this, which actually doesn't look that bad compared to the original:

Edit: after more missing around, this could possibly done.

It's a nice idea and all, but I made these graphics for Sonic XG, and that's were they're staying. =P
