Ok, it's been a long time between drinks... but the Retro-Sonic website has finally been updated/redesigned with new info and screens

    http://rsonic.randomsonicnet.org

Big News? Retro-Sonic's engine is pretty close to completion, I've finally started doing the levels again... and Retro-Sonic has been successfully ported to Dreamcast! I've decided to release the Dreamcast version on July 8/9th due to popular demand... it's a proof of concept thing rather than a demo... there'll be around 3 zone tests to play. I'm saving the PC version for the proper demo (with complete original levels) that's due out a bit later (this will be released on DC too)

So yeah... have a look and tell me what you think ;)

P.S. Here's a small Video of the Dreamcast Version for your amusement! (thanks Damizean for uploading this)

P.P.S. Here's the Dreamcast Proof of Concept Build!! It's not perfect, but it's quite groovy, the levels are ordered in terms of completion... so expect the gameplay to get very beta-esque as you go on lol

Here's the Link (Thanks Damizean Again! :D)
It's a Nero Image, just burn and play (it's self boot)

Fucking brilliant. Looks like you solved that inertia problem as well.

Is the music emulated, or just a MOD? The former would fucking rock, but it sounds like an accurate MOD otherwise.

Keep it up, man! This is gonna be the best fangame ever. AND on Dreamcast. <3

Actually, the Music in the Dreamcast Version is just streamed off CD :P I'll probably change it to MOD later though.

Kickass. ^_^ You don't know how long I've been waiting to hear some more news on this..

The extra graphical work that's been put into the character sprites and the two existing levels, among other things, looks great - the build these screens were taken from is graphically a lot better than the previous ones I've seen due to touches like the replacement of the Eggman images in Egg Garden, or the recolouring of the trees in the same level. The graphical touching-up of some elements (such as character sprites) is looking good as ever; the Fire shield in particular looks absolutely kickass. Am I to assume that all the shields will have had a similar graphical facelift? ;P

Volcanic Tower looks good, though the blue on the checkered floor in the second shot woould probably look better if it was lighter at the top, since the red that goes with it is so light. That's my one niggle with this zone's art, though admittedly 2 screenshots isn't much to go by - it might look better in the context of the full zone than I think it does from seeing the screens.

Tails' tails appearing when spinning / jumping are a welcome addition - in the last lot of screens you released, they weren't implemented, they weren't there, so it's good to see them turn up.

The logo / title screen looks very nice, though to be honest, the amount of graphical touching-up the redesigned logo has been given means that now the background looks a little too bland for it.. =P An equally sexy version of the background would be a kickass solution to this, though to be honest it may just be me who thinks it needs changing.

Multiplayer is a welcome addition (I know it's been talked about for a while now; at least since you released the last batch of screens), and I can't wait to see how it pans out. One question, though - as well as competitive play online or over a network, are there plans for online / networked 2-player co-operative play? =P No biggie if there isn't, but it'd be cool to be able to have a second player do something *useful*. XD

Finally, I'd heard rumours of a Dreamcast port in the works, but to have it confirmed is absolutely bitchin'. ^_^ Looks like I'll have to dig mine out again after all..

So, yeah, keep up the good work man. =P Looking forward to this more than ever.

This officially owns anything I'll do for Sonic in C++. Fortunately, I have a series of my own to continue, so I don't have to live with the ownage.

    Working on my art!
O RLY? I wondered what happened to this game. Awesome stuff. Especially the Dreamcast thing. I don't own one, but it is still pretty amazing. Now port the game to the Xbox360 because I own one yay.

Wow, great to see you update on this fine piece of work. All the zones look great, like the old ones on steroids or some shit. You even added the ability to play as Knuckles with Tails following. I fucking love you man. Suggestion: Instead of doing a couple pre-set character combinations, why not let the player pair up two characters any way they want? Sort of like SAdv3. Would that be possible at all? I know Stephen mentioned he wanted to do that in Project Chaos, but I don't know if he went too far with it.

Nothing that concerns this place in the least.
The thing that amazes me the most is the fact that you were able to port this to the Dreamcast. This makes me want to hook my Dreamcast up, again.

Actually, that's not all the character combinations available... it's sort of hidden, but if you keep scrolling down on that menu you'll find the not so conventional character combinations.
