I have a modded PS2 with a cheap 2.5 inch SATA SSD in it and it works great with OPL. I just hate taking my PC out, moving it, taking the side of the case off and opening it up. It's a pain to do with my setup and I'm also weak as hell. So it's just really uncomfortable for me. Was curious if anyone had any recommended enclosures for this, or if really anything is fine.
Thank you for the recommendations! Just assumed that an enclosure was the only way, this would work great too, thank you!
Yeah it's how I loaded my games on my drive before I started just loading everything off the network.
The OPL beta version I’m using kinda breaks compatibility with uLaunchELF and the HDD for the time being so I’m kinda stuck transferring directly. Either way my ps2 isn’t near an Ethernet port so the process of moving that is more of a pain than just plugging the drive in. the real issue here is that I’m incredibly weak (like can’t hold an iPad or switch without it feeling too heavy weak), but it’s something that I’m working with doctors on, so it’ll get better in the future.
Hey, Chimpo, any reason to think that cable wouldn't work with a 3.5" HDD? Had to buy a new desktop a few months ago and the new desktop only had space to transplant one of my internal data drives, so the backup drive has been sitting on a shelf. Most of what's on it should just be a partial back up of what's on the main data drive(and I really should replace it with another 4TB drive to match the one I transplanted into the new desktop as the backup drive is only 2TB, but it would be nice to be able to keep its contents updated and double check there isn't any unique data stored on it, and I'm guessing most enclosures would cost more than that cable... and the product page you linked only mentions 2.5" HDDs and I don't know if 3.5HDDs have greater power requirement than USB can provide or anything like that...
The power consumption for a 3.5" HDD is a lot higher than an SSD. It would exceed what a USB 3.0 port can deliver. They do sell SATA adapters that also have an optional power supply for 3.5" HDD drives. I haven't personally used one for 3.5" drives but here's one from Benfei that is only a few dollars more than the cable I linked. I mainly use Benfei to purchase video cables and they've been pretty solid on that front.
Oh yeah, might as well give an update and say thank you @Chimpo the adapter worked great for months. However, for whatever reason I can't seem to get it working fine anymore on either my old dell laptop on win10 or my desktop on win11 so i ended up just reformatting and using hdlbatch instead. I did this last night, it was a massive mess that took like 5 hours of me trying to figure out what was going on before i just gave up. diskpart on windows recognized the drive's size, but windows wouldn't mount it, and disk management showed an entirely different size too. i had hdlbatch setup to transfer everything via ethernet to my ps2, ran it overnight and transferred like 30 games. been meaning to give skygunner a go too, and haven't (it was on my old setup). the good news is: my health's a lot better now, and i've regained a lot of my strength too. can also play games, but nothing necessarily too button mashing so i've been wanting to get more into the ps2's catalog of games. playing mgs2 at the moment on easy and it's been a lot of fun.
