May I ask, will the engine also be able to support 640x448 resolution? By which I mean not just rescale the normal resolution, but actually be able to output hi-res graphics?

It can support whatever your graphics drivers will support. Will your computer support 640x448? I can't guarentee that. If I remember correctly, modes like 320x224 and such don't handle well under DOS, but may handle fine under Windows full screen and windowed. It depends on the drivers, the OS, and your graphics card or IC itself. So my answer is, it's not a limitation of my engine so much is the limitations of whatever your computer and configurations will allow.

BTW, resolutions in the engine do not rescale anything, they only open up the play area more (or less). If what you want means doubling the size of all the graphics and having it not look blocky, the engine doesn't do that. That's something it could do down the road, but it's not on my to-do list.

I actually considered making a hi-res game. Keeping the same proportions of the MD games, just everything twice as big and more detailed.

The engine being used by S2HD would probably be your best bet. ProSonic isn't going to do that anytime soon. I just don't think it's a feature a whole lot of people are all that interested in. I think everyone will think it'd be a cool feature, but I don't think many people would care to take advantage of it. That's my reasoning for not pushing for it.

Ah ok, thanks. Less work for me I guess. Seeing how long I take just doing the normal res graphics I guess I'd be dead by the time I'd finished a game with twice the detail. :p

Now I wanted to ask you something else but I forgot what it was.

Although I'd love to be a part of this, all I have completed so far is 87 sprite animations (out of about twice that much). Still, great work, I hope it all works out, and if there's anything I could do I'd be happy to. I admire your dedication. Developing sprite animation can sometimes be a very tedious task, especially when you are working with large numbers of frames, but this is a lot more encompassing.

You know what forget it. I have decided to directly make Sonic MD for ProSonic.
What do I need to know, any restrictions? Does it use 128² or 256² chunks? How many colours?
Oh, and do you still need anything I could help with?

A release date is set. Check my original post for details!

    And to reply to P.P.A...

It supports 32x32, 64x64, 128x128, and 256x256. HOWEVER, support for anything other than 128x128 is broken right now. So for this release, you will have to use 128x128.

It supports 8-bit, 15-bit, and 16-bit color modes. HOWEVER, like the tile sizes, most of that doesn't work. This release will only use 8-bit color (that's 256 colors out of a palette of 262,144).

Awesome can't wait to see it. It'll be released 2 days after my b-day so I suppose it can be a late b-day gift from you. :P

  10. Yeah, that means I've got to finish s1oerg by then, because when PS comes out, I'll halt s1oerg to make a ProSonic game ;)

Ah, now I'm stuck on what to do, I've been messing around with MMF2, but I can move onto ProSonic without losing anything major. I guess I'm gonna have to look at ProSonic and see if it is worth moving the project over, which I'm sure it will, since it's been under development for quite some time now. ;)

I have got a few questions.
Okay, I am a little confused. So in this release, all the features from Sonic 1, 2, 3, and CD will be available to build off? Or will it be restricted to only Sonic 1 or such. In the outline, it said from 1, 2, 3, and CD, but will this August release show all of these gameplay features or will it be limited until next release?

    2) Will the engine be restricted to playing as only Sonic, or will it be possible to put Tails and/or Knuckles into the games we make?

Sorry for all the questions, I am just anxious and curious both.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm glad to hear a release date, cause now I have a bit more time on planning how I will port my game

Thinking about it... maybe I might try and make something with ProSonic too. It sounds like a great engine, maybe I might just scrap my hack and use this instead.

  14. I dislike the MD's VRAM limitations when doing graphics (Especially considering what I'm doing) so this looks like something great.

I have a question: Will ProSonic be able to create and edit zone/act transitions(like in S3K)?

  16. Everyone keeps saying that they plan to make their game in ProSonic. That's fine and dandy, but it's not out yet, don't commit yourselves to something that doesn't yet exist in a feasible realm yet.

I have every intention of playing with the program and makin' something. We'll see if it's worth committing to, which I do believe it will be with what has been promised.

I'd personally like to see a sample level or something to see if it's really worth porting something in. If it's up to stuff, and I can wrap my head around basic usage of it, I might do a little something with it.

I'm surprised no one's asked about music though. What types are supported here? I've become very comfortable working with Sonic 1's SMPS myself, but it seems this might be able to do much more.

  18. There's some vids on Youtube of Prosonic (though pretty old). From what I deciphered, it can at least perfectly handle replica's of Sonic 2 stages. It also supports eight acts per zone maximum, and up to four different versions of each act (timezones, for example).

It'd be nice if we had an up-to-date preview video of ProSonic, just so we have an idea of what the engine can do. It doesn't have to show everything.

But I don't mind waiting a month anyway.

    Question.

A remember you made a video a long time ago showing rotation and scaling in Pro Sonic. I was wondering if this is still in the actual engine or did you scrap it completely? Because I would love to do some stuff like Silhouette Mirage.
