Daytime Unleashed is annoyingly linear, but is still fairly fun to play- you're tracing a line, but you're tracing a decent enough line.

Heroes? Even more linear, but this time it's full of random poorly-placed enemies, "puzzles" that are tedious moreso than puzzling, and cheap grinding bits.

I always thought Sonic Adventure 1 was the last good sonic game. SA2 and heroes were just average to: meh...
SA2 just didnt have enough sonic speed instead more treasure hunting and shooting. Heroes just lost the point.

What I cant understand about sega is they got it right the first time. And they cant manage to repeat that

Sonic and Shadow had a higher number of levels than the others.

My theory is that after SEGA dropped out of hardware, some of the talent jumped ship to find new opportunities elsewhere. Of course that's just an assumption I've had for awhile now.

Also Iizuka wanting to make Heroes instead of Adventure 3, I will never understand. Then again I'm talking about the man who wanted to turn the franchise into an epic like Final Fantasy.

Increasing the digit at the end won't make it a good game.

True, but I always feel cheated since Itd take me more time to get through the treasure and shooting stages, while enjoying and taking a relatively short time for the speedy stages. Its like eating a delicious cake, with rotten bits stuck on it.

That's why there's a level select. No code required

I think the point is that it would have been better without the crappy shooter levels. If they must have them, they should have given them to Robotnik, and just had Knuckles, Tails, and Rouge have Sonic/Shadow levels with an emphasis on their abilities.

    Meh.

Either way, I love me some Metal Harbor.

Edit: Oh god I said Eggman what is wrong with me.

No, because then you wouldn't be distracted by just how awful and linear the levels actually are compared to Sonic Adventure.

Yes, I meant the level artwork. I agree that it's overly easy and repetitive as well. One thing that I liked besides the artwork was the fact that there were level specific gimmicks like in the classics, there was always something unique in most of the levels. I really, really like that.

The robots weren't that bad in my opinion. It's true that there weren't many classes and the difference within the classes wasn't big enough. They are very funny and wacky (I love those expression bubbles on top of their heads) and the Egg Pawn is very Eggman in design as well: round, spinny legs, huge toothy grin and eyes like spectacles. They remind me of another take on the Egg Robos. I prefer them then the the Sonic Adventure 2 (they were all inherited from Sonic Adventure I thin) or the Sonic 06 ones (which are really boring to look at).

Funnily enough, that's what I think about SA:DX, more or less.

..except not really. SA1's level design seemed to have quite a bit of extra platforming, and in some places a nice bit of exploration. And there were ramps and loops and stuff all over the place. Not just that, but there wasn't really that many robots to make SA1 "repetitive" like Heroes was. Besides, Heroes required you to attack an enemy three times before they died, and they didn't even attack back.

Red Mountain and Speed Highway were leveldesign masterpieces. I don't see any flaws in neither of them, because they were too dang good to be looked down upon. :colbert:

In fact my only complaints about SA1's level design was that the levels were too dang short to be "one act" kind-of levels. If they had short levels like that but were seperated into three acts a piece, then that would've been epic. =3

I'll give that the final part of the level was really good if ridiculously short and the first part was decent, but you actually like that part in the middle where Sonic's running down the side of a building?

Gathering information on Sega World Sydney and collecting Sonic merchandise.
I do. In fact, it's one of my favorite parts in the game.

Maybe not that part, but every other part (the speedy 1st part and the ultra-explorable 3rd part) are perfect for a Sonic game. If they would make every level like that (although a little more blended, as in "have the ultra-explorable sections interweave with the speedy strips of land), every Sonic level would be amazing in 3D.

I'm just going to put this out there now; the Badniks need to return. I honestly don't care if they pull a Mario and recycle some of them, I find them much more appealing than any new incarnations of the robots Eggman builds in recent games.

Roboticized Woodland creatures>two types of generic robots

True dat. Badniks need a return. Egg Pawns suck extremely bad; the last Eggman-based robot that was awesome was the Egg Robo. And even I don't wanna see them as Eggman's primary robot.

    In other words:

Motobug, Buzzbomber, Catakiller, Crabmeat, Chomper, Yadorin = win. Enough said.

Holy shit, they should totally bring back the Egg Robo. After Sonic & Knuckles I assumed he would be taking Robotnik's place if they made a Sonic the Hedgehog 4. He's definitely one character from Sonic's Rouge gallery who could easily fit into this game.

I would rather have him instead of Eggman Nega.

Eh, the modern Eggman robots befit his personality far more, in my personal opinion - at least more-so than random, animal-like shapes.
    I say, keep 'em.

    Meh.
