Were you looking directly at the monitor? I think that the fact that you were seeing a 3D image of the angled monitor killed the effect, because your brain knew that the monitor image was angled and didn't try to create a fake 3D from the image (after all it was already in 3D).

Try again with one of your eyes closed, or point a camera at the angled monitor and look at the image captured by the camera instead, so that you get a 2D view of the thing. I believe that then your brain will try to make some 3D sense out of the 2D images, resulting in the same effect as in the video (which was 2D).

 

No way. Not by a longshot. Slow down his Super Peelout just a bit, and you'll find Sonic's legs moving in opposite directions.

Solid figure 8 (with "tearing effects") is the way to go.

It works, feels like all the layers are on some kind of polygon sheet at different depths.

 

Is it weird that I somewhat felt like I was watching you play SRB2?

Wow, at that angle it really looks like all the parallax layers are visibly apart. Not so much 3D, but it gives you a really cool "Paper Sonic" effect.

 

True, but there's a lot more to consider in the character design and animation than just the position of his arms. It's not really a fair comparison. I think his running animation in Sonic X, for example, looks great from the side.

 

You mean showing the animation of the legs? Or when he went really fast and it looked like his legs were a spinattacking blue and red marble? I wasent too fond of that myself, I prefered it when they animated him running so you could see it.

 

I really wish I could still get excited about this stuff =/

 

TGS starts very soon! Cross your fingers for hopefully some new info. Come on SEGA, a few screens wouldn't hurt!

 

When do SEGA do their thing? I'm not expecting anything big but some solid info would be pretty cool. If they don't give us anything I'd wonder why they decided to tease us 2 weeks before TGS began, instead of simply showing it at the show?

 

Hm, I hadn't been expecting much considering the trailer had pretty much nothing to show (which isn't a great thing for a character like Sonic in whom confidence has waivered over the years), but you do have a point.

 

It was a hype builder, it did its job to a point. However what they have to show next will determine all.

 

Exactly why I think something will happen, the timing is too perfect. I'm expecting a short trailer and maybe 5-6 screenshots.

So, if they know something new, they're not telling us right now. It may affirm Needlemouse was a shotgun announcement.

 

Could this be the first Tokyo Game Show without a Sonic game? I guess there's Mario & Sonic, but that hardly counts.

 

I don't even think M&S is at the TGS either.
