Project Needlemouse: old threads

Yeah, /v/ is full of shops right now, showing it overlayed with Sonic, Ristar, Samba de Amigo, Pikachu, etc.

I have a feeling it is indeed Sonic X)

Almost exactly the same, just have to remember since sonic is dark the background and his head blend together.

 

Okay.. yeah aside from his arm being in the wrong position, it does look like the Sonic 1 Sonic.

Also, I got un-lazy and overlayed the images in photoshop. They're a perfect match.

Yeah, but it's the kind of advertisement that can definitely be misconstrued or easily misleading. If these guys know what they're doing, then speed is the last thing they should be flaunting. Granted, I'm not really sure what they could put in its place; "back to the roots" is a very tired phrase, and I'm guessing at this point a cryptic trailer with a few flashes of gameplay followed by a date is probably infeasible at this stage of development. Still, I can't help but feel a bit suspicious.

Don't get me wrong, though—I'm fucking stoked. In fact, I just wrote a story on it. I'm really excited about this.

This is incredibly nostalgic, even for someone who didn't even get into the series until it went multiplatform. Holy shit.

Hmm. Seems to be recognizing there is a difference, and the trailer did feature bouncing around instead of just running, so...

Maybe I'll have to get a HD console now.

That'd be a valid complaint, but this is claiming to be 2D right off the bat... not a hybrid.

I'm definitely on the optimistic side of cautious optimism right now.

 

Now, the thing is, what are they going to call this game? Are we going to get the long-anticipated Sonic 4, Sonic HD, or just plain 'Sonic the Hedgehog'?

The Tokyo Game Show is being held later this month. Maybe more word on it then?

 

Sonic's special ability is to go fast. All the cool kids in the playground made fun of Mario for not being fast. This is nothing more than just advertising the character and his return once more. Sonic was a platformer, but it was a very fluid platformer that made it fast. They should absolutely be flaunting it.

And really, take a good look at this.

It's just advertisement to get some hype going. Don't start getting so bloody analytical. They didn't even show anything.

You misunderstand. I developed a 2D Sonic engine a long time ago, and called it The Hedgehog Engine. Then Sonic Unleashed was announced. I changed the name to NeedleMouse, and it's being used in my XBLA game.
