Project Needlemouse: old threads

Was just on Kotaku and saw the headline and my heart stopped.

Wishes do come true. (Yeah, I'm optimistic. Unleashed was a really good step in the right direction and I think they can pull this off.)

 

Woah. This may become something great, I do hope they do this right.

 

And some people said they'd never do it.

Well, This doesn't renew my faith just yet. After all, just because it's 2D and has Sonic in it doesn't mean it's really Sonic. But...

Honestly, even if this isn't the god game we're all hoping for, it's going to be a step in the right direction.

 

This game will be big, SEGA will see. I don't want to be one of "those" fans that thinks that whatever I like is best automatically will be liked by all, but this will cater to so many people worldwide, it will be huge. Old fans will love this, new Sonic fans will get it, people who generally just like classic games will buy it, casual gamers looking for something simple and fun will buy it, etc. This is going to be big.

 

Holy shit, I want this game from the trailer alone. I'll have to see how this turns out, but still, the trailer is fucking win.

 

Why does this silhouette really bother me?

Well, that's why I expressed my own concern—the trailer seems to flaunt "speed" as the appeal of this new game, when the originals had so many more factors that made them so enjoyable. Speed is important, but it's hardly the primary factor that made classic Sonic games as great as they were.

 

It is Sonic, but point well made; Sonic Advance 2 showed that speed shouldn't be the central gameplay point.

 

I have faith in this! Let's cross our fingers for now, and wish for what we've all been waiting for so long.

 

The trailer was just thrown together quickly to raise awareness and get some the hype started.

I'm starting to simmer down, I'm hoping they don't fuck this up. I would be lieing if I said I wasn't a very happy Sonic fan right now.

 

I think I want to see gameplay before I go crazy or point out flaws, but it did seem very "speed" oriented. We'll see, it's possible they just made it look like that to arouse the attention of fans who feel as if Sonic has been "slowed down" by silly gimmicks like the Werehog and treasure hunting.

I hope they do a complete new redesign of Sonic, just that it doesn't have that "EXTREME" look to him anymore.

I find it especially awesome as well that they release this trailer about an hour before the Dreamcast's anniversary. This was definitely planned for awhile, those sneaky bastards.
