  1. I'm not too upset about the delay. Really, all this means is that you're going to get the engine working even better than it was before. Every time I see an update on this page, my first thought isn't "It's going to be done soon!", but more like "What kind of amazing thing am I going to get to see now?" It's kind of one of those "The journey is better than the destination" sort of things, I guess. I can understand you being upset at having to re-build the engine part to this, but don't forget how much stuff you already have done that you aren't going to have to redo. Plus, you've already done a full engine switch before, haven't you? I think I remember the oldest builds of this being done in Game Maker.

Sucks to hear that Unreal 3 can't do what you need it to - must be incredibly frustrating after all the hard work you've put in so far! This project has had so much time and effort put into it over the years - a real labour of love. Glad to hear everything's being migrated over to Unreal 4 - although it means another rebuild for the engine, at least all of the assets don't need to be recreated from scratch. Hopefully the move will allow you to do what you need to re: collisions during world rotations!

Good luck with the move to Unreal 4 - will be keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes OK! = )

Winterhell helped out with making a Text processor to help convert level layouts from UDK to Unreal 4, this will save many weeks worth of work, since we wont need to re do level layouts by hand now.
    Thanks a bunch man !

Great to hear - anything that makes porting the existing assets over to Unreal 4 easier for you guys is good in my book. = )

New .anm Viewer/texture extractor from Winterhell can be downloaded on this topic.
You can now view the Hermit crab badnik .anm file which was previously not possible.

Awesome stuff - always great to see a progress update on this. Nice to see asset porting is coming along well. Best of luck with getting everything up and running in UE4! = )

making cool music no one gives a shit about
That's pretty neat. What was that feature intended for? Random generated levels or something?

I'm not 100% sure what it was intended for. but my guess was for making textures on the fly, perhaps to fill in missing textures that would later be placed in game. or maybe to save memory, One nice feature of the auto generated textures allowed them to be blended with regular textures to create a new look.

This level mostly uses auto generated textures.

This level shows auto generated solid color, auto gradients, and auto green/blue gradient frame around a standard texture.

Off topic poste ! But it kind of relates to AXSX in the sence that this opens new doors for Xtreme research for me.

Yes! After many months of hunting for old-school PC parts, sleepless nights, and spending too much money, I finally put together a retro PC with an NV1 graphic's card.

    The Components:
1: Nasty Yellowed computer case from 1995.
    2: M520 Motherboard V1.8 with 3x PCI Slots and 4x ISA slots
    3: Pentium 1 CPU @ 166 mhz
    4: 32 MB memory
All of the above came from the flea market for 5 Bucks.

5: 20 GB Hard disk from my very first PC
6: Windows 98 SE with updates.
7: Diamond Edge 3D 3240 Video card 1,000 bucks from E-bay, *Sigh* (still looking for the 2 MB Vram upgrade module that attaches to the card.)
A friend on Sonic Retro Hooked me up with an NV1 from Europe last year for 50 bucks, but it had a bad capacitor, and well i replaced them all , but there was an issue, 1 of the pads that you solder the capacitor to was damaged and so i had to try and guess where repair it and solder one of the cap's legs to. The NV1 booted up fine at first , but after a few more boot ups , blue flames shot out of a pin hole on the back of the board opposite of the capacitor that was mounted on my fixed circuit.

    See the missing pad?!
What really pissed me off about hunting for the NV1 was that we found a set of 4 which included 1 of each model for 1000 bucks.
The seller was located in china, and as soon as we offered to buy it , he pulled them off and upped the price by double!
And the only other card was located on E-Bay and was going for 1000, I got tired of waiting and hunting, so i bought the damned thing! OMFG ! few days later some more NV1 cards appeared on ebay and they were going for half the price!
8: Black Dell E772p monitor that I found at a Video Game shop for 10 bucks, (It died after a few days use.)

As for the tower case. After paying so much for this damned system. I wanted the Case to look as nice as it cost, so I spray painted it 2 colors:
    1: Metallic Hammered Copper.
    2: Metallic Hammered Bronze.
I screwed up the first coat of paint so I had to remove it with paint thinner and start all over again.
This beast runs the early builds of Sonic X-treme! Hell Yes !

Anyhow! Check out the new Retro Rig!

And here is my new Monitor, I found it for 20 bucks at a thrift store, I got super lucky with this find because it was practically new in its original packaging from 1995!
Hell Yes! Like new ! No yellowing yet !

Holy hell man, that is some real dedication. So now that you have this PC, what can you do with it that you couldn't prior?

It'll let me see things as they are rendered on the nv1 hardware ,and to see features that were not ported like the sky background shader effect. Also most importantly I'll be ready for any future xtreme pc builds that surface so that they can be examined asap.

P.S. I want to say that I don't have to re-create any more graphics or effects for the main level re-creations! I think that everything is done in that regard, sorry it took so long to get any updates out for all who are or were waiting for one. If anyone who was waiting is left that is. (sigh, when can AXSX be finished?!)

Some things to do down the road
Boss engine assets still not finished at this time but they will come later on at some point after main level engine and levels are done. Finishing Story is also on the to do list along with title screen and its visuals,
Alllllsoooooo.....Setting up actual levels layouts inside Unreal 4 including interactive objects will be next I thinks. ( will be working with Xak on this, and perhaps a few fellows working on the HDK engine, and Meinukey of Sonic and knuckles Remix )
in other news, Xak of Sonic GDK is back in action and has been studying up on Unreal 4! And is just now starting to program for the project. (about time we got some coding going on!)

Again sorry for the lack of updates. Things have been busy, but I also have not had anything worth posting about in a long while, unless you all wanted to see screens of crap going into the editor, that were shown during the UDK version's development.
(OMG is this the AXSX Cycle ?!) This is 3ed Game engine!

P.P.P.P.S...... Back when I first seen X-treme in gameplayers magazine way way back in the summer of 1996, I would have never imagined in my wildest dreams that the technical stuff re-created above was possible in the original game, and what we are seeing here is kind of special evel though it's so butt ugly!
Because you know what? no ones really seen any of this in action Before!
