Potential "dream" recasts of Sonic characters

Since its “dream” recasts, Jim Carry voicing Eggman in games would be riot

 

if Sonic ever gets a new voice I'm 100% on team 'Max Mittelman as Sonic'

he voices Red XIII in the Final Fantasy VII remake games, dude has crazy range

 

I'm really not clued in to the world of voice actors so I'm really crap at these discussions, but I think that Kazumi Evans was a 10/10 perfect match cast as Rouge in Prime. If Karen Strassman ever decides to leave the role, SEGA need look no further than Evans. She's an excellent fit for the character.

 

I don't think Studiopolis will hire non-Americans unless if it's Tara Strong. Or non-Californians for that matter.

I like pretty much every VA in Prime over the game equivalents. They all sound like they settle into their roles better; their delivery and cadence is much more natural. I can think of a few reasons why that may be the case (WildBrain makes cartoons first and foremost, Studiopolis may be phoning it in, Sega may enforce strict limitations that lead to wooden delivery), but I do think it's the voices themselves, too.

Deven's Sonic, for example, feels like it's taking cues from RCS, but he has softer and lighter inflections that RCS never really visits. It feels a bit like he's tapping into Ryan or Junichi-isms, which I love. It's why even if I can't stand the way Sonic is characterized in Prime, I can still hear a great Sonic in his performance.

I might prefer a Max Mittelman or something as my first pick, but I'll gladly take Deven if we ever get a recast.

 

I feel like this would end up like how James Woods loved his role as Hades and completely owned the character and changed its direction, however the results would not be as well received.
Carry would shift the character abruptly.

 

Deem Bristow as Eggman

Although he is no longer with us, I would have loved to see more of Baldry as Robotnik; for the memes, if nothing else.

 

Baldry and Bristow were my kings. They both rode a perfect line between menacing and buffoonish. What I would do to have either back..

 

I thought Brian Drummond did an amazing job as Eggman. He had a little more 'doctor' to his voice, if that makes sense. Sounded more like a guy smart enough to build crazy machinery, but still had the silly aspect that inhabits the character.

I think Roger Craig Smith does an excellent job, but if I had to recast him, I'd probably try to get someone like Ian James Corlett, with the ability to do a similar upper register.

For Knuckles I think they should lean into his movie portrayal and straight up get someone like Keith David and go full baritone on him. Make him stand out more. Or just get someone like Chris Sabat doing Piccolo if that's going too far.

Tails is good IMO. His portrayal in Prime sounded a little too old, which I guess makes sense for his character in the show, but I'm not sure it would work in the games as much.

Amy has been pretty good especially lately, but she seems almost like she's in her 20's or something? Someone who could do a bit of a younger sounding voice would probably be better, but I'm not sure who that'd be.

My only other thought is that Yuri Lowenthal as Sonic would slap. Someone a few years ago put together like, a fake test reel of what that would sound like using his lines from other games and it won me over.
