Although we have proof that many screens were created as mock ups, it might be possible that some of them are not all that we think.

I'm proposing the idea that the Sonic 2 engine (Pre-Our Prototype) was based not on Sonic 1's, but the Master System / Game Gear engine. This is really a long shot, but if it's even partially correct, it could explain:
    - the unproportional size of some screenshots
    - the off-centered Sonic
    - the positioning of the 1-up counter
    - the strange physics

Remember that they made Tails fly on Game Gear before they did on Genesis.

    What do you think?

    :P

It's something different, and different can be either good or bad. It's probably more unwelcome than a fart in a telephone booth on these boards, but I thought it was worth a shot. I'm going to keep looking into it. :D

:wtf: Why would they build the flagship Genesis game using an obsolete engine, while the Genesis Sonic engine was already developed and available? It doesn't make much technical or marketing sense.
I think being different for the only sake of being different is usually bad...

They're mockups, period. It's one of the mysteries that have been solved already, no need to bring up this kind of farfetched theories anymore...

Although that is a pretty far out idea I don't know any GG/MS games that have tails following you, just as another character. And wasn't Sonic Chaos made after Sonic 2 on the MD? <_<

    * Quick Man places the following bomb next to this guy's idea.

The MS/GG games came after Sonic 2, IIRC.
