More like fucking applause, really. Some parts of the previous forum were just headdesk worthy (daah CANADA ZONE, EH) Good luck. I just hope that it won't end up like that again
Thank god for Chimpo and his magnificent balls. I may actually show interest in this fucking project again.
This is the best thing that could happen to this project. And Chimpo is the best leader ever. I once suggested to lock all the threads to sort them up, but this is even better. Hopefully this fresh new start will be better than what we had before. This project has a chance to become good again.
To be honest, it was a balls up anyway. There was no way to rescue it from the dirge it had become. Still, onwards and upwards chaps.
Thanks, Chimpo. The previous layout was fucking cluttered to hell, the major reason that I wasn't commenting or contributing to the Project. Let's hope that your leadership pays, if you know what I mean.
Im glad we're back to working on only one zone, there were too many being worked on at once and the good ideas we started with got 'debated to death'. Was almost painfull to watch the great concept of a fast-paced casino themed level be turned into a carnival night zone ripoff with the one origional ideal (roller coaster) pushed aside. That and losing the fairly interesting concept of outdoor environment featuring the traps and puzzles of a more mecanical themed zone by setting it at an abandond logging industrial site. Instead it gets turned into a generic wooded zone full of crappy cliches just because it had the misfortune of being having 'Canada' in its working title for want of a better name. Anyway, one zone at a time should hopfully keep things tight and focused, easier to get things back on track if we go off on a tangent
About time. The "community project" is a fucktacular concept and I believe I told the originators this project the same thing back when they invaded SFGHQ for help six months ago (among other, realistic things). The old Sonic 4 forum and the one that was just binned were complete deskbangers to read. It never works. There needs to be someone calling all of the shots and funneling the good ideas into the final product, taking it all one step at a time. Chimpo looks like he is that man. Applause to the new director for his post.
Personally, I think Big should fight Metal Amy. Silliness aside, this really needed to be done. Hopefully this will finally get us on track for what we need to accomplish so that we can stay focused on what needs to be done first and foremost.
One good idea for the future: zone topics should have an OP explaining the inicial concept for that zone.
I'm gonna miss my bad roller coaster art, but this is for the better, we wern't heading anywhere. That being said, I'm feeling good about this, so give us our first thing to do already:P
I have a severe problem with the idea that posts may be deleted. Why can't you keep everything in one forum, close the old topics (or just close the topics that don't focus on the current plans), and only keep open the topics that reflect the project's current focus? Quite frankly, I'm going to be pretty pissed if a bunch of the feedback and ideas I contributed towards this project all ended up pointlessly made. Besides that, I think it's important we have the old topics for reference—if only for old art and discussion points. The topics were long-winded and a tad off focus, but they were not useless. Aside from that, I'm just hoping the environment on this project is actually better, compared to just resistant to extensive discussion. Some things need to be discussed in-depth, and I think that's something that should not be thrown to the side because posts are "too long." I have a long-standing philosophy that a post cannot be too long—the more detail, the better, as long as all the content remains relevant to the point being made. Whenever someone says "tl;dr" or "wall of text" in a negative context, it really irritates me. Read what people have to say and debunk it point by point; don't just troll them until they get irritated and discouraged. I'll be honest in that I'm not particularly optimistic, but we'll see how things go.
They'll probably end up trashed or in some archive forum (maybe even a subforum to this). I doubt they'd delete them; a lot of the content there might still be useful.
WHOA. That was a sudden change. I don't seriously think people were trying to stuff up the forums and be stupid. Everyone just had alot of ideas and we were all brainstorming at once. So now that the mess is done we can now bring in those ideas gradually. I think we should bring in one object/sprite/design in one at a time and only for one stage at a time until we have a full zone. No skipping any ideas, we work on one thing at a time the whole way through. And when a zone is done, we reveiw and see if anything else needs completion or editing. Alot faster this way. We also may need a thread for posting ideas. If they are accepted, they will go on the 'Ideas list' and will be addressed when the time is due. Who thinks this system could work?
Watching this forum get ruthlessly stripped of all its content has filled me with a certain insurmountable joy Just one thing, though: Since the city stage was the furthest along in development (And, you know, it was the only one I really liked, so), wouldn't it make more sense to start from there before moving on to the tropical zone? Unless your plan is to gauge everyone's ability to get things done on something that isn't already nearing completion, because that's cool, too.
...it was? Seemed like the first level had a lot more progress made. Incidentally can't help but think this was a bit too extreme.
So yeah, what exactly is the charter of this project now? It went from Sonic 4 to Sonic-4-is-a-stupid-name-but-we-are-off-to-a-good-start to just Project: Retro: now with no content. Maybe it should be renamed to "Disregard That We Suck Cocks" or something.
