Agreed. Phoebius will choose the team who will be working on this. But I think you would have a perfect place as Leader alongside Phoebius.

EDIT: Rika, I'm not Saying overly Fast, just fast is enough. In a way we could try and recriate some of the best running scenes from Adventure, like running perpendicular to the ground down a structure, or having a "RUN there's something huge rolling this way!" part.

I was also thinking of an extra act after the final boss on the center of the earth thing. After defeating the Final boss, it's only natural that the whole underground base would fall apart. Sonic cannot stay there sittign right? And with no Tornado to get him out of this mess, he would have an extra act after the boss were there are no enemies, but you need to reach the surface before the overflowing lava gets you.

  2. It's a work-in-progress... The foreground would feature loops made of ice, big purple snow-covered rocks with checkerboard patterns in them... It'd have more of a Sonic feel if it were complete. See here for my original concept art.

And yes, we don't need overly fast levels, I agree.

I support Phoeb as a leader for this project.

  7. I was thinking of a crystal level to be used in this, similar to the one in Jazz Jackrabbit:

Here's something I was doing before dinner. Having fun with Sonic.

I tried to make him a mix between Retro and Modern Sonic.

I slighly increased the spikes, kept his face, and what looks like a chin XD.

C&C on this style? Would it be a good style for sprites?

Aren't there Spoiler tags to help out when makign looooong posts? Just a suggestion.

Hello there, new guy. Nice to meet you all!

I've been thinking about the progression of the levels in the game. Without going too mad with tradition, I think the level progression should be a complete mindfuck! Like instead of working your way up into space from a green zone, we say balls to that and start with Sonic in space. Allow me to present some of my level ideas (for which I will produce concept art if there's enough interest), while incorporating some of the others we've heard, and at the same time tell a possible story.

Zone 1. (3 acts) A surreal laboratory in space (think Metallic Madness good future meets Doomsday). Sonic starts the game held captive in an orbiting prison station. He breaks out and immediately has to run for his life! 0 rings, and a deadly drill machine is speeding after him. When Sonic escapes through a zoom tube he finds himself in a botanical laboratory. The plants here can be used to great advantage, or could mean certain death.

At the end of the level, Sonic boards an escape craft where he must face ROBOTNIK. After defeating him, the damage to Robotniks machine causes the craft to malfunction. It's going down!

    Which leads us onto...

Zone 2. (1 act) As you chase Robotnik, you are intercepted by METAL SONIC who gets in your way long enough for Robotnik to reach an escape pod. Now there is only one pod left, who will get there first?

Zone 3. (3 acts) The escape pod plummets into the ocean, where Sonic finds himself in an underwater temple. Evidence of Robotnik is everywhere. He has constructed a deep, undersea rig here where parts of the submerged Death Egg wreckage are being salvaged. This is the first level we encounter some serious, seismic activity which seriously shakes up the place. At the end of the level, Sonic notices the Death Egg power core being loaded onto Robotnik's new weapon of destruction The Death Sub. After defeating Robotnik, he decides to blow this joint.

Zone 4. (3 acts) Sonic is rescued by Tails on the Tornado, and together they head towards the epicenter of the earthquakes at the center of North Island. However, Robotnik has other plans and fires a torpedo from the Death Sub, bringing Sonic and Tails down to an ancient port town on the coast of North Island (Think Aquatic Ruin meets Star Light by day). As you're racing through the plazas and promenades, watch your step as the earth begins to move, because speed may be your greatest enemy! You face Robotnik at the port above the Death Sub. When you defeat him, you finally get to board this evil mechanical monstrosity.

Zone 5. (3 acts) Sonic basically has to deal with a faster paced, but more claustrophobic Scrap Brain Zone. You have a beautiful view of the blue ocean around outside, but there's no time to enjoy it while you're up against heat seaking torpedos, buzz saws and crushers. A thermal generator and torrents of water filling the place can prove to be a very deadly combination!
By the time you get to Robotnik, you discover that inside the main chamber there's a large craft, with a powerful drill mounted on it. Robotnik escapes on this after you defeat him.

    (Here endeth the metallic zones)

Zone 6. (3 acts) Having reached the other side of the Island, Sonic and Tails find themselves in a shimmering city, at the heart of which is a theme park. Make your way through the speedways and ascend to the city summits via cable car to face Metal Sonic once again.

Zone 7. (3 acts) Sonics deadly journey towards the inland continues through a quarry, where Sonic has to negotiate the perils of a confusing network of mining cart tunnels and a hydroelectric dam where you encounter Dr. Robotnik on board the drilling machine. Robotnik is in a hurry in his deadly drill craft and leaves boss duty to the deady team of Metal Knuckles and Tails.

Zone 8. (3 acts) Washed down the river from the dam bust, you find yourself in a beautiful, lush, green forest. It had to appear sometime right? And that time is now, the final level! Don't be deceived by the beauty of this zone, this is Jungle and Angel Island on crack! When you reach the end of this zone, you will encounter Robotnik for the final time at Chaos Temple. Defeat his treacherous (and seemingly ever expanding) drill craft to stop Robotnik once and for all!

    THE END! Well...

If you don't have all 7 emeralds it is... and it's not good either. Robotnik uses the power of the emeralds to drill through the temple to the core of Mobius and cause massive destruction.

But if you DID get them all, get ready for the real final challenge!

Zone 9 (3 acts). Your journey to the center of planet Mobius is a perilous one. Work your way through a network of sparkling, gem encrusted caverns where you will face the fierce intensity of water, firey magma and blisteringly cold ice.

Zone 10 (1 act). You are now at the center of Mobius, the Chaos Well. The Well regulates and distributes the power of the chaos emeralds across all the Hidden Palaces. Stop Robotnik's evil plan to disrupt the well and cause mass destruction... and kill the bastard for good while you're at it!

Once Robotnik is gone, there is still someone who isn't going to let your escape be an easy one...

    So, that's it folks! Thoughts?

Hmm, are you suggesting a sort of Sonic Unleashed beginning by concluding another adventure before the real one begins? I love that idea.

  12. I'd like the first level, but 2nd sounds like it could be the third act or something.

jasonchrist, that is one heck of a good plot. I love the ideas, but there'a a bit too many mechanic themed zones. They usually aren't dominant in Sonic games, but there's no telling what we could do to tweak them a little.

I took chimpo's pallete, and sprite style, and changed a lot of stuff on my waiting animation.

    New top, old bottom.

As long as chimpo doesn't mind, should I continue. I'm guessing chimpo was just giving me an example, and won't mind.

If we are using that palette for Sonic should I adjust the palette used on the Metal Sonic sprites? (Currently they use a Sonic 2 palette)

Well shiny of course but I'm just talking about colors in general (I will make Metal Sonic more shiny soon enough)

Looking back, that was absolutely terrible wording. I, myself, think the color looks okay.
