    Thing is, add "Robotnik has recruited Knuckles who later on finds out who the real bad guy is" and that IS S3&K's story.

    Yeah, but would that really be useful? I mean, read back on the suggestions on when to use it.

    The only thing that could remedy this would be if Sonic could pick up monitors and throw them around. That would be quite cool, imagine you wanted to go invincible, but at a specific point in the level. When playing with Sonic, Tails could carry it around.

    Well, there was the idea that me and Upthorn came up with. Basically, as you collect different type of shields as Mighty, you're able to store them in a Super Mario World-esque inventory. You can give up 5 rings to switch between the shields, which will allow you to strategically make use of different elements when appropriate, as well as string different moves together in a specific manner. For example, if you have two lightning shields equipped, you can do an infinite double jump until you run out of rings to maintain it.

    It's a very interesting concept, I think, and ideas like that could really make the game unique. You could make it so when you pick up a Time Slowing monitor, you can keep it on you and choose when to use it. This could allow access to secret areas by navigating obstacles that would not be possible to pass without time being slowed down. Stuff like that.

    Think of it like picking which armor to use in Megaman X5. You can get more Light capsules by, for example, having the Falcon Armor equipped to access a certain area.

    Yeah, that'd work fine, I think. As long as those monitors only appear after you have 1 Chaos Emerald.

    I still like the idea of being able to pick up monitors, though. Like, you could have a bomb monitor, which as Tails, if you pick up and drop from a height, explodes.

    OK one more suggestion.

    Robotnik MUST look like "Double HEY EVERYONE I AM A COMPLETE ASSHOLE PLEASE MOCK ME" Robotnik.

    It'd be awesome, and you know it.

    That music wasn't done for a Sonic game though, but a different kind of game altogether. I could make a Sonic game soundtrack though.

    I never said it wasn't necessary, just that this isn't the time and place for discussing the full storyline. A short premise is absolutely fine.

    Maybe we could have seperate threads, for different aspects of it, keep this as a general discussion, and make sure we don't push to be on topic too much since areas tend to overlap, just generally try to keep to storyline, etc. I.e. the threads are for "focus"

    What about a "Swich" monitor? If you have a shield on you, it changes it into another one.
     
  12. Maybe the home attack shield from Sonic 3D Blast could be added, being a yellow variant of the normal shield.

    I agree with this. I also feel the homing attack has taken a lot of the challenge out of Sonic games. I understand it for the 3D games since it's hard to aim, but I don't think it belongs in a 2D game unless it's done using a shield.

    Then Maybe it should be a Rock shield, or something like that. (Bubble, Fire, Lightning...)

    ...Spike shield, perhaps? That must be the only other hazard that other shields don't protect against.

    It could be a metallic hamster ball or something similar, its double-jump power being a "magnetic" homing attack.

    I think adding anymore shields would overdo it. What's needed is to make sure already existing shields will have a spot to begin with. As you recall, in Sonic & Knuckles (and therefore, the later half of S3&K) the bubble shield became nearly useless while it would be the electric and flame shields that were prefered. So instead of adding more, concentrate on optimising the use of pre-existing features.

    Preferred but not entirely useless. Sure the lack of water makes the bubbles underwater breathing a bit redundant but the bounce and just the fact that it absorbs damage won't be rejected in a pinch. This is not to say I'm in favour of adding 100 new shields cause they sound cool and uber, but I do think that an addition or two can't hurt if it comes to the idea. Kind of a keep your mind open but lets not get crazy with every element under the sun otherwise we'll end up in final fantasy territory with lightning shield lvl 2 can hit multiple enemies and chance to cause paralysis kinda things lol

    but anyways. yeah I mostly agree with you

    On another note, discussing minor details like this seems a bit pointless atm as well, its all miniscule fantasy lol if you want this to happen gotta reverse to the bigger picture. Get more level art or something in here and get people psyched about potential ;)
     
  19. Since we're beating shields to death, there could be a gravity shield which reverses gravity while you have it on (perhaps it could be time limited?). I can see this being useful for secret places on the ceiling and getting past certain obstacles. Gravity reversal was only first introduced in S3&K anyway and I think you could find ways to do more with it, including build a level where the gravity has completely run amok and can be switched periodically so that you can walk on all four sides of the level like in Crazy Gadget.

    Oh, and if the center of the Earth final base/boss thing gets a green light, know that the net gravitational force at the center of a radially symmetric object is zero and that any level in this realm should have significantly reduced gravity.

    As I mentioned in the IRC, as well.. I think Eggman Monitors need to be made more a hazard. They're plenty easy to avoid in S3&K, so some sort of random placement or something would be great, whether its as simple as the S2 ? Monitor. If it's a ? monitor, then it becomes "Well.. Do I really need this monitor? I'm in a tight spot, but this could fuck me."
