The difference is name rust is used for Iron Oxide, I don't remember if the other oxides have a specific name associated with them or not like how iron does.

    Excellent Flare.
Loving it at every bit of detail! ^^

Only on the squared base I preferred the older perspective version, everything else had been improved drastically, from the advanced shading to the spotlights and text.

To make it really perfect, and start the icons animations please try to fix the few antialiasing problems present:

*Additionally, lower the text and spheres a bit and try a slightly fainter red glow on the led.

    Again, good job! ;)

Oh wow, put my attempt to shame right there why don't you, Flare. ; ) Looking good there! Liking the glow effect on the light, as well as the light / shading in general, which is exactly the sort of thing I tried (somewhat less successfully) to do. The slightly less exaggerated rounding of the screen corners compared to mine means yours should also fit better with the square-shaped screen icons. The edges of the monitor frame also look a lot less chunky, so thumbs up there, too.

Pretty much got no C&C other than agreeing with Vincent about the button/light positioning and the perspective issue on the stand/base area. Though, what exactly *does* that text between the buttons below the screen say on yours? Might just be me being tired, but I couldn't make it out clearly - not that you'll need to when it's in-game, mind; just me being curious.

Looking forward to seeing your broken frame for the monitor, too! One thing I wanted to do with mine was show some burned-out wiring and stuff in the black area behind where the screen was - never got around to that in the end, though, since I had a pretty roundabout way of drawing things which took a while. Thought you might appreciate the input, anyways. = )

    Keep up the good work!

Not meant to be readable really as I don't want to be a glory hog or anything.

This I really like. Even the white noise is spot on in terms of looks.

Looking good there! = ) Only thing I'd do now is move the "fLA=Re" text down the same amount you did with the buttons - and possibly move the red light down the same amount to keep them all vertically aligned. The fixed version of the base is looking awesome, though!

    Great!

The antialiasing problems seems to be practically fixed, and that's close enough to make the icon animations getting started on! ;)

    Suggestions:
I do yet again personally prefer the old concept triangle-shaped monitor base, however:

-Lower the buttons slightly and put the text in the same line
-The top of the monitor base (red mark), at its middle part going seems to get a weird effect of going below the monitor connecting tube.
-There won't be pitch black BG levels, but the spotlight on the green mark makes the lower base somewhat curved on darker BGs.

Fix those and I'm more than happy with it! ^^

I'd round off those base corners, unless of course this is just a mock up of what you could do, then whatever.

Er, wait. I just previewed this message and I didn't even see the dark part of the base on the dark background. You might wanna lighten that up a bit so the base doesn't just look like a couple of sharp points on the sides when it's on a dark backdrop.

I mean as exact as MC's monitor base:

Going back 2 pages. It's a god damn ugly free texture of the internet yet it still looks better than the current spikes.
(Apologies to Flare and Vincent for derailing the monitor talk.)

Blah, allow me to provide a better example.

PS Deviantart is a great place to look for free textures.

Would that diagonal line really line up exactly like that? It's going to look awful when you tile it up.

I just wanted to whip up a better example of textured spikes. But yeah, having those diagonal lines, at least those thick ones at the bottom, would probably be a detriment to them if there are a lot of spikes next to each other. If I were to go in and set the texture up for the spikes properly I would most likely split the spikes apart and then apply a slightly different texture to each one so they all don't just have the same thing going through them all.

Hmm... I don't know why but I don't like them textured. It looks like "paper" spikes or something...

Not to go too off topic, but another great place for textures is here. Lots of great high-res textures, including the ones I used in this remaster.

For an example texture, here's one of scratched metal (for some reason, I can't find some of the old ones I downloaded from there, but it's probably just because I didn't go through all 50 pages in the search).

Edit: Also, textures on the spikes would look best, if anything, if they were rounded. Putting flat textures over 3D objects looks bad, the majority of the time.
