Don't get Illustrator, get Inkscape instead, it's much better (and I prefer it over Illustrator, etc.) =P

 

Sabrina, I don't know why you think Inkspace is better than Illustrator.

Unlike Vincent, you only say that it is better, but why is it so? What makes it better than Illustrator?

Unless you tell me, Dark Sonic, and and the rest of us, the most likely scenario is that most of us are not going to get Inkspace, and prefer "dodgy" Illustrator.

 

Well, a good starting place is that it's free and open source...

 

Well, considering that Inkscape is GPL and also available for Linux (there _are_ Linux users here =P), and Illustrator won't run on Linux and is bloated compared to Inkscape =/

I personally hate Adobe programs (for PDF reading, I use Skim on OS X and Sumatra PDF on Windows =P). And, like Hivebrain's custom title says: "Don't use Adobe programs."

I'm working in the Results screen emerald, just like u said, the emerald in the special stage is streched because of the resolution.

I think it looks good, but a bit too tall, like the vertical sides are bigger than the other edges. I think all the sides were supposed to be equal.

Also, some of its shading differs too much from the original, and there's that strange diagonal line inside the emerald...

About the shading... mmm The original emerald looks like rocks painted, I mean, that was a transparency limitation, when you look at a real emerald the shading is diferent in all sides, this is caused by the reflection and refraction inside the emerald.

I know, this is a remake project, but we cannot make ALL the things like the original game but HD... In the result screens there is no light source for that emeralds, I gave them an emerald look. The strange diagonal line inside the emerald is not inside, its outside, Its the reflection from light, I'm used to see emeralds (My bro work with them) and they reflect almost all light source available.

Well, I said I was going to contribute something when my Uni stuff was finished, and now it is, so I will. = )

I noticed that, although someone's already done an item box it's based on the Sonic 1 variation, which has some different details, colouring and shading compared to the Sonic 2 version. =P So I decided to try my hand at my own version of the item box. The most time-consuming parts (the box and the broken box) are done now, and all that's left before I have a complete first version is to finish off the rest of the icons and the two frames of static.

However, I've been up all bloody night doing this and I'm totally knackered, so I thought I'd post the WIP anyway, since it'll allow people to comment and critique it while I'm asleep and point out any changes that need making. I'm also not sure whether to try doing the Sonic / Tails / Knuckles / Robotnik icons at all or not, since it'd probably look more consistent if the people drawing the HD versions of the character sprites also did the life icon for their character - I'm not sure if I can mimic the styles shown for those four characters well enough to do a decent job of it.

Anywhom, without further rambling, here's the pics. First, the original monitors:

I admit I took a few liberties with some of the smaller details like the buttons and things at the front, but I figured since they're only 1-pixel-high details in the original artwork a little creative freedom in realising them wouldn't hurt. =P Couldn't tell what the hell the long bar between the two buttons was supposed to be, so I made it into a name plate with "SONIC" written on it, as if it were displaying the manufacturer's name.

Anyways, C&C's are welcome. Go nuts. Hope it's on the right track! = )

That is a excellent rendition of the Moniter, the little touches really add to the design.

Great item boxes, McAleeCh! At least, we got a awesome design and the "little touches" make them more realistic ^^.

 

The 'little touches' are what we need MORE of. Like the texturing and edges of the Eggman Mech in the WiredOtaku image, it's going to be all the little ameliorations and embellishments that will make people appreciate how much love has gone into the project.

The Star itself defenitly needs more work done to it.

 

Those monitors are absolutely stunning. They're perfect! Excellent work!

The starpost is looking better, but I'm concerned about the small bars between the base of the pole and the base of the object in general—they look like they haven't been touched at all. Do you plan on adding more definition to that?

I also think the white is a bit much—there should be more inbetween colors and a small amount of white to better show off the reflection. Right now it just looks obnoxious.
