You say that, but DEZ doesn't have assigned music for its slot either. Both WFZ and DEZ's music are in the Simon Wai proto. They must've been intended for something, and it sure as hell wasn't WFZ. That shit was last minute. I don't think there's any way Masa would've composed for it.

The best argument I have for DEZ's music being Cyber City is process of elimination, because of that. The same argument I use in the concept art thread. It wouldn't make sense anywhere else.

Two things I want to throw out there before I forget.

F you guys for calling me crazy saying this was water. I always thougtht this was water and I was called a nutjob. It was "an elevator". F you guys.

    second,

I've said numourous times I think Wing Fortress Zones objects are from Cyber City now. Also F you guys for that one.

On a serious note, I am so excited to get these layouts.

Also, this might be a shot in the dark, but... here's a theory.

I'm curious if these two objects are leftover from Cyber City before it was reused for Wing Fortress.

I doubt it. That looked more redrawn from one of the japenese artists.

Do they not have better scans of the image? I appreciate the fact that we're getting this at all, but it's not worth much in terms of recreation if we don't know what exactly we're looking at.

It's interesting to me that the bear traps seemed to function. Probably like this? I'm wondering if they were motion activated or just kind of worked like the pistons did randomly?

The moment I saw those turrets and realized the possible WFZ connection, I thought "wow, Hez knows the future!". For the record, I never thought it was a crazy idea.

Notice the end of act 2 has what reminds me of a boss area that sort of looks like that of WFZ. Hard to know for sure, but high-quality scans should be interesting.

    Edit:

See, I don't think we can know for sure when they decided they would have a flying fortress. Did they know by Simon Wai? I don't know. They put it together at the last minute, sure. But they don't have but so many people staffed to work on the game. So whoever did WFZ might have had to finish up other things first. So it could have been conceived earlier than it appears in our prototypes.

But the song could be a DEZ. I can't rule that out. But I think it sounds *better* for an airplane than a starship. Just my opinion.

As stated by the man himself 3 pages ago oops, yes it will be released eventually and soon but probably not till the charity stream is over.

I’m just going to edit this post. Also for anyone who hasn’t been watching frank stated that they got 500 pages from Tom Payne and that they’ve scanned all of them and I’m assuming they all will be released around the same time.
They showed a funny picture that someone on the dev team drew of sonic smoking a blunt and one of him with a gun.

It doesn't make much sense, at least to me, for the bear traps to be automated, because of the purpose of a bear trap to activate by stepping on it. I remember you saying before that they could be activated when the player touches the purple center?
Although, we haven't seen more sprites of the bear traps, so they could just act like spikes.

I have my doubts the bear traps were intended to animate. The way the chunks are designed in the game's code, not to mention collision, that would be quite tricky to implement. It would make more sense for those to be objects than chunk data.

My guess is that they were simply stationary, and it you touched the spikes, you got hurt. Kind of an odd trap though.

There could've potentially been objects in the center like springs to reach a different route or a monitor. It might've even been the location of the Antenna badnik.

That's what I had thought too, but it's just strange that they would have stationary.

What makes me interested about that conclusion is that we know that Metropolis Zone act 3, in some shape or form, reused a level layout from Genocide/Cyber City Zone. There are sections of the level (in both the Simon Wai and Final build) that have rows of spikes that seem to line up with the size of those bear traps. Is it just a coincidence or are they a replacement for the bear traps, like how in Sonic CD, there are pits with spikes in them that were replacements for the Antlion badnik?

Yeah it's kind of an odd setup at this point, the bear traps look like they're supposed to animate and even look such in the layout doodles, but they also seem to be designed as level art, which would be quite hard to animate to that level, especially with collision.

The only alternative I can interpret them looking at how they're drawn, is maybe if they were simply slots for buzzsaw objects or something.

    Over 500 pages!?

Okay, I kind of get why they're monetizing this here, now. There's going to be a lot of stuff to go over, even if not all of those are Sonic assets.

Can these guys go find R2/Dubious Depths for us now?

Go check on the other Sonic 2 artists, maybe we'll have full art and maps for the other beta levels at last.

Could that mean we could possibly get a look into other scrapped zones? I mean, it's 500 PAGES, I doubt it would all only be Genocide/Cyber City. I really want to see the rest of the Wood Zone layout, and maybe Sand Shower or Rock World?

  17. Thinking about it now, weren't Balkary, Nebula, Turtloid and Clucker all implemented in the August 21st Prototype - far before SCZ & WFZ were? Them being the Badniks for GCZ makes a strange amount of sense...

It would also explain why they move so slowly, as if they were meant for enclosed areas.

I have no idea if this knowledge was already known but it sounds like Tom Payne only worked on metropolis and genocide City, at least directly. So mostly likely they are going to revolve around that but who knows. The stream also said that Craig stitt only worked on hidden palace, and Brenda Ross did desert/winter.

calling it now. I bet these are either those spinning platforms in wing fortress, or these

    upload_2023-4-16_21-47-42.png

EDIT: Infact. The bars in Wing Fortress always looked oddly shaded to me. If you flip them though...

The palletes aren't difficult to swap either. In fact, the weird brown that they used in a lot of spots for shading on silver (which made no sense, the colors are available there) it matches a bit better.
