    I've always thought that having Mach and Max would have been confusing, even more so than that one time when we had Shadow and Shade.

    Good point. They are a bit more different in Japanese, since Mach is "Mahha" and Max is "Makkusu".

    Mahha is definitely how you do "Mach" in Japanese, though- ???GoGoGo

    Same way, Makkusu can't really be anything other than Max unless you want to be dumb with the romanization and do "Macks" or something.

    I would've thought "Makku" would've been how they would've done Mach. Oh well.

    Have you two been watching the current Kamen Rider by any chance? :v:

    Absolutely loving these new scans. Seems we're really getting more clarity into the early days of Sonic 1's development, and boy does it feel good.

    I echo the sentiment of creating a hack which has proto-Green Hill transition into what we have in the final build. If only I wasn't such a slacker, I'd try to learn the ins-and-outs of Sonic 1 hacking, and attempt it myself!

    Nah, I associate "mahha" with the original cut of Speed Racer, which I even quoted in my post :v:/>/>



    The reason why it's mahha instead of makku is because they want to catch the way it'd be said in German, as the term mach comes from an Austrian scientist.

    (sidenote- wouldn't be surprised Kamen Rider Mach was design as a homage to the Mach 5 :v:)

    Bach in Japanese is also said "Bahha" since as The KKM says it's closer to how they hear the German pronunciation.

    The only band member's name I don't really get is "Sharps". The others all somehow relate to speed or flying but I can't figure Sharps out.

    Sharp as in C#, as in music because band.

    Though I'm not convinced they put much thought into it.

  17. Sonic never rotates to match the slope of a path in the final version though except with loops and really sharp curves.

    Considering that the game does store the angle information of the landscape, and uses it actively to affect how you jump at all times, making the sprite change angles as well is pretty trivial.

    If it wouldn't, then they would need special triggers to rotate sprites for every loop or every curved corner where you can run up the walls. That could get pretty complicated, and it would be easier to just store the ground angle.
