If it were that easy, it would've been done aeons ago. The problem could simply lie beneath the fact that SEGA could technically own the tracks and no one would be able to talk about it, or it snafu'd something bad during development and it's caused a legal tangle no one can get out of.

    Working on my art!
Hell if need be I'd be ok with them changing the music if need be. If 3 tracks must be changed so I can play the game on my iphone then so be it.

Hyper Sonic though is kind of fair to ignore. I mean, I can't be certain, but if the game was never split do you think that he'd ever exist? What I'm more mad about though is that Sega splits S3K in rerelease all the time, but they consider it one game when convenient. Case in point, Generations. "But guys you got your Sonic 3 level, Sky Sanctuary" :specialed:

    1) Sega's been interviewed hundreds of times over this. They are not obligated to tell anyone anything. You'll either get a "We do care about Sonic 3!" with kick backs to the XBLA, Wii VC and Steam releases, or a roundabout no comment. And it's a little more than just the music.

    2) Oh for the love of... for all the trolling that Iizuka did at Sonic Boom, he squashed the Hyper Sonic thing immediately: it was a one off to encourage the players to bother collecting the second set of Emeralds. Otherwise, the Super Emeralds aren't actually a thing. There are only the Chaos Emeralds. Hyper Sonic will not be coming back.

    3) This is the part now where you take a paper bag and breathe into it.

    Life.
Still-smaller nuggets I got when listening. The singing is very slurred and, typical of '80s songs, is drowned in reverb. Not a great combination.

*I'm hearing very slurred 'aaahs' rather than 'all', such as...
Late at night with the darkness here around me
    I'm drinking aaa-lone

Also due to the slurred nature, I can't tell exactly what "Where you're forgotten now" is supposed to be. I'm hearing any combination of Where/Well, you're/you've, and now/how. Leaning more towards Where for the first one.

I do think it's 'all alone'

And I've heard 'Where... have been/having forgotten now' but I don't know if that makes sense o.o

I think it could possibly be "Well, have you forgotten now"? Everything else sounds correct to me.

Also, haha, wow, another member from Ridgecrest CA. :)

    Trapped in my own thoughts.
Two stageplays, a screenplay, and an album
This song would be a great fit for Green Hill Zone in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, no? I went ahead and looped up a brstm just for Retro. Not as perfect as I'd like, but you won't notice any issues unless you're looking for them. Don't own or care to mod Brawl? You can also play this in Winamp with the right plugins (I'm almost positive vgmstream can handle this) and it'll loop forever, seamlessly.

The PC tracks were changed either because
    1. they had licensing issues, or
    2. they had no clue if they had licensing issues of any kind but they knew it was a grey area so they changed the tracks to prevent any possible licensing issues

Or, they weren't given the source for the tracks to begin with.

And the Sonic CD soundtrack is great because it rips off Pet Shop Boys.

Not where I want to be.
Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
I think these are all what happened at one point or another. Not being given the source would explain the situation with S&KC, but not for why Sega seemed so reluctant to do anything with Sonic 3 besides emulate or prerecord those same tracks for later rereleases. Licensing issues (or concerns) would cover that.

You've just blown my brain XD Yes I am. It's such an offbeat town I kind of expect to see no one else from here on Retro.:)/>

    As for the lyric...
"Well have you forgotten now," is what I hear, too.

    Exactly!

If you're old enough, you may even remember my dad's store, Kunz Photo & Hifi, which used to be on the corner by Fastrip but folded in the latter '90s. Because it sold Sega and Nintendo games I was always guaranteed to get the latest Sonic on time. :)

My dad's likely been there a few times! He builds speakers and is a total audiophile. :) Are we talking about the Fasttrip on the main road? I remember a computer store being near there, but it folded sometime during my childhood. We got a couple of PC-DOS games from there, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers and Jeopardy, and Monopoly on the NES! :)

  13. Really now? Hm, Sonic CD's Japanese soundtrack is what got me into electronica as little kid, I'm curious what Pet Shop Boys sound like now haha.

Check out Opportunities, West End Girls or Always On My Mind by them. I'd link now, but the Mifi I'm on has a parental guard feature that won't let me access Youtube, and I've yet to figure out how to turn it off.:argh:/>

Yes, that's the Fastrip, on China Lake. Awesome! It's a small world. :)

I'd also recommend Heart, So Hard, It's Alright, Rent, Minimal... or anything by them really; they're one of my favourite bands.

Their entire album titled "Very" sounds like tracks from Sonic CD. It was also released at the same time; if we wouldn't have Sonic CD prototypes predating the album by a few months you could almost call it a straight copy (however I do not know at what time the Pet Shop Boys album was recorded at...). Also we have proof that they sampled other popular music in Sonic CD, that Bob Marley sample being one.

The USA versions on the other hand rips off Pete Escovedo. It is credited in the manual for Palmtree Panic only... but the rest of the tracks sound a little like it too, though that might be just because all the tracks sound a little the same.

Wait, which track sampled Bob Marley?

I believe he's referring to the last voice you hear in boss theme.

Also, that Sonic CD's Japanese Boss theme includes samples for Stone Roses' Fool's Gold and Work That Sucker to Death. Seriously, they couldn't get away with that now, could they?

If we're going to question the legality of using SAMPLES from other songs, then we may as well ban anything by Hideki Naganuma.
