Music that reminds you of sonic

  1. There's certain sounds/tones/chords I hear in music that evokes memories of my childhood. Memories of me crouched in front of my Gen 1: Genesis, and 20" Tube TV trying to get all the emeralds before I beat Sonic 2.

Obviously, Michael Jackson has his ties to the Sonic franchise. But some other artists from that era have a similar feel. Here's some Songs that I think could fit well in a retro sonic game:

    A Hidden Palace BGM:

    A "Sky Based" Zone:

(Original songs by: Naked Eyes. Midi Arrangement by: Andrew Doss)

The end of this Apoptygma Berzerk song always reminds me of Hydrocity Zone:
    Spiritual Reality Excerpt

    Anyway,
Post some songs that would sound great in a sonic game, or songs that remind you of sonic.

A theme from G Gundam- the Erupting Burning Finger.

The beginning really reminds me of His World for some reason too. I think ti could fit, especially if it is played during Sonic Unleashed gameplay for example.

I've previously mentioned Bitman and Roban's "Get on the Floor" but there's also Blinded by the Light which is really Green Hill Zone's BGM.

Actually their music in general is pretty similar to several of the Sega soundtracks from late 80s to early 90s, especially the arcade titles. Slightly synthy prog rock sort of thing.

What music reminds me of Sonic? That's an easy one. A lot of Michael Jackson songs, the cutoff point being his HIStory album in 1995. Make the songs with the Genesis soundchip (whatever the hell it's called), and BOOM! Sonic music. None of MJ's sappy songs though like "You are Not Alone". Fun songs like "Scream" (If anyone makes this song, you get a big fucking thumbs up from me, what incentive!), "Jam", "Thriller", "Bad", "Rock with Me", and so on and so on.

Other music that reminds me of Sonic is 80's synthesized music in pop songs, like "Su-Sudio" (I hate that song, but it would be cool if it was instrumental), Rocky IV music (especially "Hearts on Fire" and the "Training Montage"), and some Bobby Brown songs like "Every Little Step I Take" and "My Prerogative".

I can't wait for someone to say "What the fuck are you talking about, you have horrible taste".

  6. For some reason, every time I hear Tohuvabohu by KMFDM I can't help but think of rushing through a modern Sonic game. The instrumental part of song seems like it would fit really well with a fast-pasted mechanical level.

(KMFDM = awesome band, btw. Saw them live in Cleveland last week. On the front railing in the pit, no less. )

  7. Oh man, I can't believe it: someone else who thinks this. I always imagined Chapstick and Chapped Lips and Things Like Chemistry could go well with a theme park stage, especially since I've been to the park they're referring to (what was at the time a Six Flags) and know the ride they're talking about. There is indeed a wet marshy area beneath the place where the coaster once stood.

I guess Down in Flames would work well for a final boss, especially on the debris of a falling space station or airship.

Oh, also basically any Kyoto Animation series -- the synth set they use seems to be the same one as Sega's sound team uses.

The Lucky Star and K-On! theme songs have the same bass voice for certain and are similarly arranged to some of Senoue's music, like the final version of Ocean Palace or Power Plant from Sonic Heroes.

Semi related but not sonic, there is a lot of music in AION which sounds like classical pieces of music from the Phantasy Star series, mostly PSO and PSU.

    Parliament - Flash Light

As soon as I heard this song on the radio, I was immediately reminded of Sonic music. To me, this kind of sounds like a mix between Marble Garden Zone and JP Sonic CD's Robotnik theme.

Also, this reminds me of Sonic music, too.

Guilty Gear XX - Blue Water, Blue Sky

The first thing I think of when I hear this track is the theme to Sonic Rivals 2, but it also sounds like it could be from a level in Sonic Adventure. I can just picture Sonic running through some tropical/ocean level to this music.

A tune from Star Fox: Assault.
I bumped into this tune and was instantly reminded of Wing Fortress Zone... If the music was done like Super Mario Galaxy's of course.

  12. lolol! on the "Blinded by the Light". That song will never be the same to me now! probably for the better.

I can totally see it. I love KMFDM. At first I was like, "kmfdm in a sonic game?" then I re-listened the song, and I'll admit, it's fitting for a tech themed level.

    YES! George Clinton... Yes!

    Various Artwork & Music, :smug:
I think I got into synthpop and spacesynth partially thanks to Sonic CD. Laserdance's stuff is pretty Sonic-esque, but my problem with them is that their songs are way too similar:

    Laserdance - Power Run
    Laserdance - Digital Dream
    Laserdance - You & Me

The synth used in Animotion's I Want You also reminds me of something out of a Genesis game for some reason. I think pretty much most songs with a prominent synth bass tend to remind me of Genesis music for some reason, too. Michael Jackson and music from other games is pretty much a given. I know there's more, but I'll think of them later.
Ha ha ha, I used to listen to this song while playing Wave Ocean in Sonic Next.

EDIT: Stand Out by Tevin Campbell, from A Goofy Movie. The scene where Max skateboards through town reminds me of Sonic a LOT, mainly SA2 I guess. Shadow Man's Theme in MegaMan: Network Transmission is classic Sonic all the way.

When I was younger, I vaguely recall hearing a bit of a rap song that had a hint of Red Hot Skull (Red Mountain 2) in it. I have never heard that song again, so I can't tell if the music is RM2, or something that I'm remembering wrong.

Wait till it kicks in. Reminds me a lot of the Sonic CD American soundtrack, in particular the different iterations of Collision Chaos.

DAT BE SUM COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT, I SEE??

Reminded me a LOT of Launch Base rather than Marble Garden. There's even some instrument in there around 1:30 that sounds like Sonic's bubble-breathing sound when he's underwater. In fact, I think I'll mash these up real quick.

Yeah, there are some points in that song where the bass tune sounds really close to Launch Base Zone. :)
