I say we take another look at it. I don't suppose Sonic65's example is floating around anywhere?

  2. That's a pretty lame reason to not include it. The original game didn't have HD graphics, remastered music, or Knuckles either. I like it, I say we give it a shot.

It should be an option. Some of us think it's pointless and couldn't care for anything like that.

I think I've found it - from the General Project Thread, page 33 [well... 32 - did a search]: http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?sho...st&p=189906

you can read the responses to it here

Everyone was positive, except for Tweaker? That plunge sound effect was rather silly though.
I say, add it. It's an easy to do effect, but still a cool addition.

My opinion towards the project has changed, but I still think those filters sound like shit. It annoyed me in Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Rush and I have no doubt that it will be equally annoying here. I like listening to the music, and I don't want it to be changed in stupid ways while I'm playing through the level just because I happen to be submerged in liquid.

Let's make it optional JUST for you, dear admin :3
(No pesky remark intended, believe me)

Yeah, I like that. As for people not wanting it if it's included, I'm sure there will be an option to turn it off. I think there will be an option to turn off most of the added things by the time it's done just so people can play through it and get the same experience as they would playing the original Sonic 2. Besides, it'll only be used in Chemical Plant, Aquatic Ruin, and Hidden Palace.

Well, I was thinking when I proposed it to be more like a change in instrument sets rather than just an equalization filter, which was more like what Mario Galaxy (and shoot, on some level, even Mario 64 in Dire Dire Docks) did.

That could work as well. I'll see if scubaSteve feels like whipping up some examples.

Or custom levels, if that is still one of the additional features that's going to be added.

The muffling effect sounded good, but the underwater background noises would need to go. As had already been noted, this would be a feature that could be turned on or off, preference depending.

If someone wants to create a version that uses different instruments, we'll compare it against the current demo to see which is a better fit.

I'm all for the underwater filter if it doesn't apply to the drowning music, or fades away at the start of the drowning music.

Thought I would do a test piece with some EQ alterations. Done it with sound effects to give an idea on what it could sound like.

  15. Now that I like. It's pretty subtle, and doesn't interrupt the enjoyment of the musical piece.

Ooh, I like that. I'd love to see this effect added for any underwater sections.

I also like the underwater effect. Can you do it for Aquatic Ruin and add some oxygen dings in there?

EDIT: Actually, I just realized that it may be overly jarring if the drowning music comes in full force while the zone music is muffled. Maybe the drowning music should start with the filter on, and the filter should gradually become less intense before going away entirely. Not only will this let it start quietly and end loud, which will be a less startling transition, but it would also be a cool way to apply the filter and test the limits of the musical score.

WOW! Seriously, I think that's absolutely perfect and I DEMAND its presence as a feature (at least optionally) of the final product! ;)
