This can't get enough recognition. Excellently done.
A lot of remixes I hear have techno out the ass, and this remix actually sounds richer than the rest. I loved it.
Final submission for Sonic 2 Boss : http://www.box.net/shared/1i5m1z2fra
I'll upload it the "official" way or whatever later.
I don't like the instruments you used. They sound very much synthetic, and not HD at all.
I gotta agree... It currently sounds more like "Sonic 2, SNES version".
I think it's a very "true to the classic" attempt in the sense that nothing was really added to the mix outside of the original. I like it, but think the synth-brass could use some more kick. Still, sounds good though. Definitely not as bad as some are making out to be.
I didn't mean it sounded bad, but it can be improved.
Agreed for sure, but I must say that IMO I feel you've definitely got the sound of the drums right - it's just the synth that could still do with some work.
Keep up the good work
I aimed for a beefed up version of the original. Are you all trying to say that you would prefer a "live orchestra" sounding version of the boss theme? I don't have any spectacular orchestra libraries. I do have Nexus Dance Orchestra and whatever my hardware synths have.
I tried my hand at the boss music, but did not feel it was up to snuff. For posterity purposes, however:
Original MIDI by King Meteor.
That horn sounds like a lazy goose...
That one is quite excellent except for the horns taking the melody, I find that extremely annoying. Also the bell sounds have a longish decay on them that gets quite distracting. The backing instruments are very well done though, the funk guitar in particular. I don't think the bridge section would work for our purposes however, being as laid back as it is.
Now we're at Chemical Plant (a place with a bit of liquid) I was thinking of making the music perhaps a bit... underwatery when you dive. You know, like Mario Galaxy. A bit more reserved though.
That isn't water, it's Mega Mack. >.>
Whatever, they're both liquids.
Anyway, it'd be an easy enough effect to just put a filter over the music when Sonic submerges... I assume.
I think that sounds like an awesome idea. I'd jump into water on purpose just to listen to the effect :p
This was discussed before.
It ended in baaaaaaaaw.
I kinda like this idea, myself. I think it's worth looking into.
If it can be done, it should be implemented. Even if it means playing the normal and underwater tracks side by side and switch between them when necessary.
A lot of us thought it was a cool idea. I think Sonic65 even whipped up an example.
But some people were being purist and insisted that if the original game didn't have it then the remake shouldn't either.
