Right I've increased the punch of the bass drum and got rid of the clap at the start but made it quieter so it doesn't dominate the track. There was another tweak on the organ.

    Canned Karma

I gave it ago with the original drum kit and it just sound too flat but I have put it parallel with the real drums.

This is the final one now as I'm very happy with it and now feel this is a superior version of the original.

    Hill Top Zone - Final

Here's the basic one but I prefer the one above.

The top one is definitely the best, but isn't there some way you can turn up the volume on the drums after the 4th measure so they don't get drowned out?

I thought the drums' volume was fine RSS. Were you listening on headphones or speakers?

No complaints from me steveswede. We've got a keeper. Great job!

    Steveswade, great job.

    I have some little complaints:

Some notes don't match the original
The Harmonica and Organ sound you used are a bit artificial

Also, the bass you chose is perfectly accurate to the original, that is awsome! Where is that from?

Ah, here I made a fast version using better samples to the Harmonica and the Organ:

    <a href="http://localhostr.com/files/bc897b/Hill+Top.ogg" target="_blank">Download - HTz ME's Version</a>

It's not the 8th wonder but it's a good referencial point! Thanks for reading.

    Thankyou RedStripedShoes for pointers.

Thankyou Canned Karma. I'm well pleased that it's got the pass. It's a tall order for anyone to do faithfull remakes as everyone has their own idea on how it should sound like and I'm glad that my work has paid off.

    Master Emerald.

    Thanks for your comments.

If you can upload your midi files that your on about I'll compare them to the ones I've done and see what I have to do but it just might be the rompler samples themselves.

The organ is the B4 II which is an emulation of the B3 and the harmonica is from sonivox. they are about the closest I can get to the real thing so I can't do much more to it and my skill is limited as I'm only self taught.

The bass is the one from sonic 2 but what I've done is use a slicer tool so the timing is correct as speed of the bass goes all over the place. I also use a convolution reverb called SIR2 (CPU heavy) and tweaked the effects abit. I will say to anyone who is going to do these remakes is to use the original bass lines and just clean them up. The basses are still fresh sounding even to this day and give that overall original sound for the remakes.

What the next target now? Mystic Cave, or are we doing the ones for now corresponding to the new art?

The midi I used (beware hotlinking protection). Also the main objective is not to having songs sounding like the in-game ones. The intruments were made basing on a real instrument, mimicking it, we don't have to use a real instrument that mimick the voice used, we have to discover which instrument the voice was basing on them choose the one which fits better, that's how I see it.

I can't download it as it says forbidden pal. Can you upload the midi to filedropper as I can get from there.

Also you can have a go with yours if you want. It's at 111 bpm.

It says it's forbidden but VGMusic still allows you to download it.

Also man, I only use Soundfont files, I use SynthFont, so I can't put waves from the original music on mine.

Right I gave it a go with that midi and everything apart from the organ is exactly the same. I tried it with the organ midi and it didn't sound right. The person who did it might be a little off from what it is. There's the point where it goes through the first chords and at its lowest point, goes a bit wrong plus the end was 10 semitones lower than the one I've used. I've checked other midi files and everyone of them is almost completely different. If you want to give it a go Master Emerald I'm more than happy for you to give it a go.

This midi is a bit diferent from the rest because Teck made it. That guy changes some notes and puts new chanells thus the fina result usually gets better when using his and SwordBolt's midis =P.

If you're looking for more work to do steveswede, there haven't been many attempts on DEZ yet. We've had a few good ones for SCZ, but nothing that's been given a great consensus. I would hold off on Mystic Cave, as I think most who heard it would agree that scubaSteve did a phenomenal job on that one already.

Shame on you, steveswede, for just taking the original track and pawning it off as your own.

I'm kidding of course. That was absolutely perfect. I don't think it's possible to make a better remaster than that.

Glad ya like it. Apart from the bass, I did it all through the Sytrus plugin and used the SIR2 reverb. The percussion is from the Hill Top Zone track I did. I only started it today and was well pleased with the out come. Doing that sub bass was a bitch though as I really struggled to hear how many semitones they were moving but got round it in the end.

  15. :) Couldn't agree more, perfect. Great Job.

The "final" revamp of HTZ sounds EXACTLY the same as the original tune. The only thing that sounds different is the percussion. That's it. Why not try using a banjo for the main instrument and an actual harmonica for the secondary instrument?

Same goes for the current Death Egg theme. This could possibly use some distorted guitar. As for the other instrument, I'm unsure a s to what it sounds like to be honest, so I can't make any suggestions for that.

Come on people. I thought this project was meant to enhance the original game, and not copy it. At least the graphics are looking slightly different to the original. Do something different with the music for fuck's sake...

Then what your after are remixes. It's good to have these ideas to like change instruments for remakes but it's another thing when you do it. I'd tried a Banjo in HTZ and it didn't work. The other thing is that it costs money to buy plugins and you have got to find the right ones aswell. Also it has been made clear that they are meant to be faithful remakes. My first one I did for this project was the boss theme and even though I feel it's the best one, it was mentioned that it was not what this project was looking for. I hope there will be a remix pack that goes with it or give people the option to change it to whatever they want so I'm with ya there.

But that was pretty good -- what the hell are these guys looking for? Oh wait, perfect audio rips with just the percussion updated. [IMG]

Faithful it might be, but it's not exactly how I'd like to hear a remaster, personally.

In my personal experience, remixes can deviate from the original songs quite a bit. Sometimes so much so that it's hard to even tell what it was originally supposed to sound like. This is something that we want to avoid, though it would be neat to do some remixes and have them as bonus, because it can be very easy to, um, "offend" someone with a remix when they're expecting something in particular. That's why I'm guessing it's been decided to stay as true to the original material as possible.
