As entertaining as that is wangle (and believe me, I enjoyed it quite a bit), I'm just not seeing the need for a background choir for each boss so far. For the final boss, easily, but not on every zone.

2. Hey all,
Sorry I was inactive for a while. I've now finished my degree course so I can work on this project more. I'm going to do Metropolis Zone, as it's one of my favourite tracks and is suitable for guitars. I figured how to play Hilltop and Oil Ocean on guitar also, but not sure if it's worth me doing them properly?

Right this is what I've done so far that I'm happy with. Some of the score has been left out as I'm still working on that. There are going to be extras like more percussion later but what's everyone's thought on it so far? The hi-hat is going to be changed but is everyone happy with the kick or are you after something more real?

At first I thought you had just posted the original track from Sonic 2.

That's how spot-on this is.

Cheers for that. It's half way there and I feel it has the right sound so far. I still don't know what I'm really aiming for with the lead. It sounds more like a harmonica but I had a listern to BlazeHedgehog's mix and I love the sax that is used as it sounds full and phat.

Nice work on that so far. The biggest issue I'm seeing so far is the sample you're using for the harmonica. Whatever it is, it isn't a good fit for this piece. If that's something you haven't added in yet, and the current sample is going to be background for it, that's something else... otherwise, yeah. I'd change it up.

Yeah thats going to be seprate instrument to the harmonica/sax. As soon as I do the right lead I will see if it will fit. I know what you mean as it stands out like a sore thumb.

Since this is too epic for a standard boss theme, how about using something like this for the Metal/Silver Sonic boss fight in Death Egg Zone? I mean, it is the next to last boss fight in the game and the last thing between you and Robotnik, which imo qualifies it for a slightly more epic boss theme than the rest.

The second cymbal hit sounds like it's coming in really early. I like where you're heading with this though.

12. I like the Hill Top Zone effort so far, sounds like it will be very close to the original. The Boss theme sounds good too, I'd like more instruments like strings though. I have done another Metropolis Zone on guitar, but my computer can't handle the wav files and so keeps skipping when rendering the file! This causes the tracks to go out of time. I'll upload as soon as I can fix it.

14. I chose to do it on guitar because it's what I have. I recorded myself playing on a real electric guitar, no midi or keyboards were used here. I don't think it would be possible to do the chords and fast parts on a kazoo. Personally, I think a guitar suits this song, but also an organ accompaniment would be cool too. If anyone can suggest improvements (I know it could do with equalization and ironing out the chorus) feel free. I am thinking about trying Hill Top Zone like this, but really I think it needs to be done with a Banjo and Harmonica.

Now THAT'S awesome. How come you can't play that well for Metropolis Zone?

16. Haha, thanks. Theres a lot more going on in Death Egg so I guess thats one reason it sounds better. I think I'll try and get Metropolis up to that standard by playing the backing rhythm and redoing the guitar samples to make them better. Give suggestions on what you think it needs though.

Well one thing about DEZ's music is that in terms of notes, it sounds uncannily similar to Metropolis Zone, especially in the last third, before the loop. I think you could actually rearrange the individual notes in your recording to sound like Metropolis.
