I used in_vgm 0.35 as that lets you pick and choose which FM channels play back. This lower octave you speak of does not exist in the song.

Hey, I was just able to talk to a few people whom I know to be great musicians. They might be able to do an actual recording! Think about...real instruments! Of course, this is just conceptual. It's going to be difficult finding a date where everyone can come, and tracking everyone down! But if it can be pulled off, just imagine what it could sound like!

Sounds cool, but if you're gonna use real instruments, you are going to HAVE to use a click track. And it has to be a multitrack recording so it can be tidied up. Otherwise, despite being awesome, it could sound horribly unprofessional. It's a lot easier to make everything from a computer, but I agree it's not as awesome.

woah, that's an AWESOME tool! Apparently tone 3 is what I was thinking of as the lower octave to Tone 2, but I guess you have that already.

Attention all contributors: If you're not using this thing already, please use it. It makes checking your accuracy soooo much easier.

You could also rip a VGM or go to Project 2612 and then convert it with VGM2Mid. It loses the percussion but you get a good rip of each note.

Of course, In_VGM as noted also can isolate channels, but it's not a note transcription.

You're all faggots for forgetting about Puto's smps2xm, which can be used to make 1:1 rips of any Sonic song.

Here is your Emerald Hill in XM format, tagged and instrumented.

All the credits goes to Puto, I'm just the delivery boy.

Hell, I've been saying that smps2xm could be so useful for this project since the beginning, but no one cared.

  7. Real instruments and real musicians are all well and good, but has the music been arranged for the ensemble you intend to use?

Thanks for the heads up! I don't know why I didn't think about that.

    What I'd choose:

    EHZ: SSN Tails
    CPZ: Blast Processing
    ARZ: Blaze
    HTZ: Tweaker
    Met: Tweaker
    WFZ: Tweaker
    Act Clear: SSN Tails

That would be of great help, especially for composing the tracks without basing on poorly made midis.
If someone would like to rip them as a correct reference for all the musicians, we'll directly add them to the Database.

What about the title screen music Qjimbo?

Sorry to throw into the discussion something from 50+ pages back, but I was wondering if you guys were still thinking of looping Kaijin's version of Sky Chase Zone? Because when you think about it, you don't really need to. I mean, it's not a very long level and it's not like the player can just drag his feet and refuse to move forward, thus making the level longer. Does the amount of time it takes to complete Sky Chase Zone exceed the length of time of Kaijin's remix of the level's music by any more than a few seconds (if possibly not even by that much)? I hope I'm making myself clear enough and not just coming across as annoying or a complete pest.

I would actually love the project to use Kaijin's version of Sky Chase too, I think it's fantastic.

The thing is though, that it is a low quality rendition. And unfortunately Kaijin himself explained that he no longer has the source for it.

So unless someone can replicate it or create something better, we might just have to use something else, though we will see. Looping though won't be a problem, as long as people remember to submit their music as 320kb OGGs.

  13. I think SCZ is just over two minutes long, but that's just off the top of my head.

Kaijin's version is great, but it's unfortunate that he doesn't have the source anymore. We'll be okay with using something else.

Also, nice to see another Pennsylvanian join the boards. Welcome! :(

You just made me remind, are you still going to use OGG or what? Sorry, but I strongly oppose against the usage of waveform format for the BGMs, and instead I suggest using an instrumental one (XM counts like one, and basically any module format). Not only because they're smaller, but because of the tempo issue: you'll have to do tempo change to do the supersneakers effect. And changing the tempo of a waveform is insane and almost always fails. Tweaker told me that you would be using two versions, one fast and one normal, but I can see serious timing problems when switching since the normal decays for the instruments don't change with the tempo (expect drums playing twice and such).

Seriously, it'll be easier if you just use modules or something. DUMB seems like a good option (supports MOD, S3M, XM and IT). But it's a bit outdated (which doesn't mean it can't do the job).

Thanks Sik, but we already decided and finished implementing OGG with looping, so we'll have to turn around this problem in a different way :(

OK, but don't come back to say anything when you find out it's literally impossible to do the speed up souding properly with the mixed output (which is the result of a waveform format). Unless you plan to make a separate BGM for the supersneakers, that is. Otherwise, I see it very hard...

Hey guys haven't been here in a while... or I should say I haven't posted in a while. I know this is off-center from the current focus but...

...since I've been seeing that same newgrounds.com version of Metropolis Zone being hailed as the only real guitar version, I thought I'd bump this for those who can't use search or those who just simply forgot my dubbed (read: ripoff) of Tweaker's version. (I at least tried making my own version at one point... :( )

    Metropolis Zone theme.

Are we still headed in this direction or have we settled on Tweaker's original sound for this track?

Yes, I do realize this is all I ever post about here. But, don't think I don't like a lot of the things others have posted here. This project and the forums in general have been a great source of entertainment for me. :argh:

Nice Metropolis Zone, however, it needs fixing.

1st: The record scratch sound at the beginning needs to be more lenghty. In the original it sounds like it's scratching back and forth once, but here it sounds like its only being scratched one way. In short, it sounds cut off.

2nd: At 0:34 (1:15, 1:56, and 2:37) where the guitar does the rolling thing (I don't know how to describe it) it's supposed to go C# B A# A (I think that's what I hear in the original) not long C# B A. If that's not what I'm hearing, what I do know I'm hearing is that there is a missing note in your version (long short short) as opposed to the original (short short short short). Is this confusing, because I can't really describe it better...

3rd: At 0:46 when it does the fade out sort of thing, (?) it starts at a different note in yours. In the original, it starts at an F#, but in yours it starts at G#.

That's it. Here's the full Sonic 2 soundtrack for anyone's future reference.
