Do you see that huge silence gap at the beginning? That gap would generate a short delay, instead of being played immediately when the sample is triggered. Also, with that unneeded long fade out, you killed not only the sample's release but also it's sustain, making it sound awkwardly short.

    Here are my Ring samples:
    Ring - Left
    Ring - Right
    Lose Rings
These are clean samples, snapped to zero crossings, so they'll play immediately. If you notice the behavior of the Ring sounds in the game, it always alternates between the left and the right channel making a nice stereo effect. :(
They were ripped from Kega Fusion, which is the most accurate Genesis sound emulator. Even though, as ICEknight said, I 'd also like to hear a sample using the original hardware for accuracy comparison. I can take care of the SFX ripping and editing if you wish, it's no problem, I don't want no credit at all, I just want to be helpful. ;)

  2. Isn't that a problem with saving MP3s?

No, that has no relation with it at all. It's an improper editing problem.

    Then go for it.

I like you attitude on helping S2HD, that's our philosophy! ;)

About original samples we need a complete rip of ALL the sfx in the highest and loseless format possible. (Avoid MP3!!)

Great, since there is no rush, I'll be making a pack until this weekend. I'll probably need some help later for identifying/labeling the samples. About the quality, I'll use the same as those: lossless 44100 Hz 16-bit Stereo PCM WAV

Thanks for the feedback and contributions Fred.

About labelling the sound effects, you could name them just as they are in the Sonic 2 sount test.

So the ring sound for example could be "35 - ring".

A word after the number is important so we know what's what as we look through the list.

In spite of Tweaker's comments, I like this version of Casino Night.
Maybe it have too much echo for me, but it's still almost perfect. I just love it, because is very close to the original (the Beta version's notes, that I love) and the instruments makes me feel like I'm in Las Vegas.
But it's no more than another opinion... let's see what would happen with future comments. ;)

  8. Yep, my thoughts exactly. It gives you that real genuine feel, like you really are at a giant casino. The other versions people have submitted just don't seem to offer that. They feel too shallow.

And the standards are lowered once again!

I wonder if I should just pull all my contributions, since it's apparent people will settle for much less.

    Sounds great!
I want to hear more of your work, Tweaker. With more choices of the same song, we've the possibility to vote and discuss what's the version that fits better with this great project. ;)

I don't see how I have a stick up my ass for having reasonable standards for music. If you actually think what Irixion posted is good, then you have none. Period.

I never said Irxion's shit was good, but I wouldn't come in here and start saying I would pull out because of it like some drama queen with an ego problem.

I have an ego problem for putting effort towards making my music sound good with limited response, while someone else comes in here with something completely half-assed and gets praised constantly for it? What?

If you spent hours on a piece of pixel art that looked utterly fantastic and you got an "Oh, that's cool" comment for it, then somebody else comes in with something of clearly lower quality and gets their asses kissed over it, as if your work amounted to nothing and theirs was far superior, what would you think?

I'm not going to put time and effort into making music for this project when people will consider trash just as acceptable. That's the bottom line.

  15. Well maybe if you actually had a version of Casino Night we might say otherwise :/

I think it might be that some people don't have the other submitted tracks at hand to compare (or just don't know they're been added to the first post to check), so those being posted right now will be automatically the "best" for them...

And speaking of that, is the first post up to date?

I just tried making a cover of it, but I'm not comfortable with it—it's not my style and it ended up sounding too similar to Marc's. Regardless, it still sounded better than Irixion's, but I'm not going to post something I don't believe is up to par when it comes to that song.

I've only done tunes I know I can cover well up to par. Anything else wouldn't be acceptable.

That shit happens to me all the time.

Except I don't start baaawwing like you are.

You post your shit once and then disappear. Promote your shit you fucking idiot. Nobody says shit about my artwork because I post and leave. In a message board where other people are constantly posting their own work, nobody is going to notice you unless you put it out constantly and loudly. You're not going to get the attention or quality you want if all you do is bitch and moan like the faggot you've become.

If I said that Irixion's song was great is just because it sounds great for me. That's my opinion. If Tweaker's opinion differs from mine... sorry, but I can't help it. The song sounds great for me and I'll be glad to hear it while playing Sonic 2 HD's Casino Night Zone.
I think that we are for post opinions and vote, not for impose what are good and bad things to other people. Every people in the world have different tastes about every art all over the world and every one have to respect other people's choices about what's good and what's not.
That's what I think, but maybe differs with what other people think. I don't know...

You know god damn well I know how to promote my shit—Megamix would have never become as big as it was if I didn't. The problem is, despite promoting it and even discussing criticism with others regarding it, people still continue to stick their noses up the asses of people who have absolutely no musical talent whatsoever.

So fuck you if you think I'm not entitled to do whatever the hell I want with my work, and fuck you if you think I'm not allowed to think I've wasted my time by contributing to this fucking unstable hellhole of a project where absolutely nobody can agree on what they want the thing to become after it's complete.

The issue was never that my work didn't get attention. It's that utter shit is, and if they'll settle for utter shit, then I'll take my quality elsewhere.
