  1. Yeah, but apart from the final boss, you can't really say that the bosses in Sonic 2 are actually epic at all. It's usually just Robonik in one of his silly flying machines moving left and right a bit, and then going red in the face after you've jumped on him a few times.

Even though this version of the boss theme takes some liberties that in other songs wouldn't be allowed, I do say it is funny because it sounds so funny and peculiar, and Dr. Robotnik's contraptions were always funny and peculiar that for some odd reason this version fits better than I expected. I'm going to have to give this some more thought.....

Regardless of the style, I do have the say the percussion on this version rocked.

My favourite part is the "Russian" flavour the music has.

XD. I keep wanting to say "Hey!" at the end of every riff for the verse of the Robotnik Battle song. I love it though, and my vote is definitely on this one at the moment. I think it fits perfectly, =D. Also, has there been a final Metropolis yet? And if so, has some one already beat me to doing guitar for it?

:) Love how true this is to the original! With that touch of difference with the russian feeling.
    Nice job man!

Can I disagree with the Robotnik/Eggman theme a bit more?

The best form of explanation is by comparison:

Comparing the original song: http://www.zshare.net/audio/123141327352c9fc/ with the new one - http://www.bronxrican.com/stuff/misc/Boss%...0-%20Master.mp3

I don't really think the new one is as... "exciting" as the original was. With the original song, I just felt like I could do play air drums with it all the time it's on!

Where as the new version sounds a little more 'mellow' in style, and [as I said] not as exciting.

Sonic 2's boss theme has got to be one of my all-time favourite tunes, so PLEASE don't mess this up!! :D :D

I have to agree with the above comment, I think the new rendition could perhaps be more dramatic and forceful, this version seems a bit soft for boss music

Now I hear the difference between the Boss Fight versions and can say it is a little weak.
Could be a little more epic! I still like it though! I gotta add in those russian HEY's for my own shits and giggles.

    Anyways:

I'm not much of a music expert, but that Chemical Plant really worked in my eyes... or ears, whatever. Close enough to the original to count, and sounding excellent with it.

I doubt anyone will make a CPZ as good as scubaSteve's:

  12. I appreciate as much feedback as possible, because thankfully I'm immune to Internet hyperbole. I already know I will mess this up for a lot of people, so there's no pressure.
While I'm goofing around, can we also stop using the word "epic?" It's a boss, it's not Armageddon... and it certainly isn't Sephiroth. :P

There is definite Russian influence in Robotnik music, especially Sonic 2&3; I think this is what it would've sounded like if Genny had more channels. There really is very little interpretation in my version (one says "taken some liberties" and another says "too close to the original"; go figure). All that said, I agree some beefing up is needed. I've got a million snares, so no prob, and the brass and timpani will be EQ'ed a bit. "Aquatic Ruin" needs less instrument layering, too. "Opening," "Invincible" and "Super Sonic" are halfway ready.

While that goes on, here's a draft of the "Staff Roll," using placeholders from the original and my favorite renditions so far. Nothing extra in here, but just to show the time-stretching and remastering (some of it extreme on some tunes) needed to create BGM for the credits.

    That sounds insanely cool. :D

Let me know if you need them, and I'll go ahead and send you my original FLPs + patches used for my renditions. It'd be much simpler to create new renders for the modified speeds than to do it post-processing.

  14. I like it, you've done a good job but it's a little too calm and classical for Sonic, HPZ at least needs all the instruments from the original including the drums.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but this tool will let you play these remix mp3's along with the game.

    http://www.randomsonicnet.org/srz/s2music/s2mp3.html

It really helps to see if the music fits and how it sounds when playing sonic 2. Not all level tunes are replaceable, but most of the level tunes are. If course if someone made a no music game genie code then all the music would be replaceable.

You might want to make note of this tool in the first post to help people judge better.

Just an idea, but how about using the actual DreamsComeTrue song "sweet sweet sweet" as sonic is falling from the death egg?

  17. Despite being a musician, my words shouldn't hold too much value here(I'll go for anything that sounds cool ^^), but I must say, this sounds fucking awesome. And not to suggest that you haven't done so (I haven't listened and compared the tracks) but you should make sure to use the others guys' tracks as references. :D

  18. I thought the big guys (-_-) here allready talked about this, and it wasn't a good idea or something, or only when Sonic 2 HD is played through for the 2nd time or something  The discussion about it is in this topic, but eh.... How many pages are there allready of this topic? <_< I don't want to look it all through =P

The pacing if the original song is different, so the ending would have to be edited, and anyway... it just doesn't give the same feeling as the game music did.

I don't think it would be a good idea.
