At first I did, but then I tweaked it some in order to at least try to make it sound ok. If I did something wrong by doing so, then sorry. All I know is that it's kinda how I did it.

Again, if what I did was a bad idea to do, then sorry. :<

CNZ 2P music is amazing so far. Perhaps make the piano a tad louder.

    **EDIT**

To clarify, I'm referring to the piano chord stabs from 2 seconds to 28 seconds into the song. The piano beyond that point is fine.

    **END EDIT**

Aquatic Ruin is good so far, but still needs a bit of work. Those harp sounding plucked string things are really nasty sounding near the beginning of the track, but better later on.

I'd have never figured the lead to be a...what is that, a pan flute?...but, it actually fits fairly well. It seemed like a muted trumpet to me, though=(

Honestly, I'd suggest taking what you're currently using for the lead and use it instead of the plucked string chords.

Sorry if I sound pushy or anything, I'm just trying to make suggestions. I don't know how well any of what I said would work out, it's just something to try.

BTW, I spoke to that Dummeh guy, unfortunatly he is a contractual worker and really doesn't have the time to create pieces that he isn't financially commited to, which is understandable.

He did say he would be happy for us to use any music he has already created.

Ask him if he would multitrack his work for us to work on. There might be a big NO off him but it's worth a try.

Not saying it was a "bad idea", but that MIDI just differs from the original song in some parts.

I was bored so I did an Aquatic Ruin rendition. Dunno if you'd need it or not. Might try to do a Hill Top rendition as well. Those two are my favorite Sonic 2 songs.
I do think the reverb is a bit to much in this rendition though. Tell me where I should take it from here.

I made a quick edit on the reverbs. Sounds much better imo now.
I'll leave the old one up as well.

    Sounds like very standard MIDI.

Also, the bass line doesn't modulate at all, which really detracts from the melody.

Haha, at least I gave it a try :P

  9. I had submitted my arrangement of the ending theme of sonic 2 from my youtube account:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkgwuT5bLsw

But seeing as I am not trained in sequencing and do not posses the hard or software, does any one want to take a crack at sequencing this piece with more realistic instruments? I do want to retain creative control of the orchestration and arrangement though...
    The instrument list is:
    Flute 1
    Oboe 1
    Clarinet 1+2
    F horn 1
    F horn 2
    Trumpet 1
    Trumpet 2
    Trombone 1+2
    Bass Trombone
    Tuba
    Drum Set
    Cymbals
    Harp
    Piano
    Violin 1
    Violin 2
    Viola
    Cello
    Double Bass

I might write a timpani part

I'm fairly new here so I don't know if it's my place to say this, and I'm not trying to grief just for the sake of being a jerk either, but I have to say I'm confused to what you think your contribution is. You didn't write the original piece and you don't have any music hardware or software or the desire to learn to use them, but you want someone else to do all the work while you retain creative control? Except I couldn't really hear anything distinctly creative in your YouTube video, or any original material for that matter except maybe for the flute doing some trills. That instrument list really gives no information either. What do those numbers even mean?

For anyone else working on the ending, in case you hadn't heard it already all the ending needs to be is what it was intended to be, an instrumental version of Sweet Dream: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6bYHxwJv24

It says in his Youtube info:

"I am a musician of many talents including arrangement of music, my forte being that of video game music."

I think he arranges the music and is looking to work with a composer is all.

  12. Indeed. He just means that he's struggling to make his orchestral remake sound more realistic and needs help.

    Point one.

Many that made a contribution to this project have taken a midi from the internet. And perhaps modified that midi to their own needs. Reason being? Most members can't compose for shit here.

    Point two.

He obviously has music hardware to produce the piece of work posted.
-- Disregard that I suck cocks and need to learn to read

    Point three.

    He needs better patches/VSTis.

So yes, I'd consider you were a jerk there.

  14. for the record, I do have Sibelius, but that is no sequencing program. It just makes really good scores.

I would recommend investing in FL Studio. The cheapest version with piano roll and sequencing capabilities (2nd cheapest overall) is only about a quarter of your monthly rent payment (well, my rent payment, but I digress), and it's totally worth it.

There are also other ways in getting it, but I'll leave that desision for you. :)

And I'm totally not biased by the fact it's what I use too :P

Dummeh has given me a link to a great musician that I have emailed.

I've asked if he can join here.

    http://www.youtube.com/user/ubergrau

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKv8Ytb0AxE...re=channel_page - Aquatic Ruin Zone

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83BuzqVUpno - Sky Chase Zone (motion picture style)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=518Yto-vqMI...re=channel_page - Angel Island Zone (I love this, and its extremely faithful)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AStMpnCgVkY...re=channel_page - Green Hill Zone (ok, this is really far-fetched for a game, but I posted it to show his skill)

I admit, his are a little different in style, but if he does join, then he can see what we are looking for.

And then theres this guy who I haven't asked yet but would be glad to.

    http://www.youtube.com/user/bakuriu007

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ymhVQOInoY - Sonic 2 Boss Theme (he has alot more on his account so have a look)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTLq3F9UPPo...feature=related - Sonic 1 Final Boss (just totally epic... the improvised choir is awesome)

Sonic 2 HD, various 3D work
Both of those musicians' work have been posted here before, and yes, they are incredibly talented. While those pieces aren't quite what I'd like to see in the final version of S2HD, I'd love to have more people like that working on the project creating original pieces for us.

Well, I just got a reply from the first one saying...

    'Hi Phasher!

Of course I have heard of Sonic 2 HD and I was amazed at the quality of the demo. The new sprites and backgrounds are looking really good!

I'd love to help! But my main priority will always be my studies, I'm a full-time university student in graphic design.

One thing I thought I could do is the ending theme... Orchestrated as you could hear in a Final Fantasy game, but true to the original. I always wanted to do that with Sonic 2!

But doing many tracks could take up to a year since Uni is very time consuming.

Tell me more of how much work is needed! But consider me in for a possible ending theme remake!

    See ya'

To be honest, its gonna be a year before we are done I think, mabye I should tell him that.

So is that allowed for this project? I always transcribe by ear because I consider using MIDIs from the net really dishonest. It practically never results in the original transcriber being asked permission, or even given credit.
