[MD] Japanese Sonic & Knuckles Commercial Uncovered

That Nico Nico Douga link doesn't work (as in, the site says the video doesn't exist - yeah, got an account last night just so I could watch one of AnalYoGirl's videos).

 

Works now.

 

Knowing SEGA, you'd think they'd use some innuendo in that ad. There couldn't be a more perfect situation in which to use innuendo.

 

I think SoA saw that opportunity after this was made and used that for the 32X ads.

 

I'm not sure why I laughed at the last 2 seconds of that video.

 

I think those last two seconds are from the video magazine, which is just a series of adverts strung together with a bunch of Sonic animations. I'm not entirely sure but they could have something more to laugh at =P

 

Just to make it clear, the source video (the Nico Nico Douga one) is over 35 minutes long and does indeed contain multiple ads in it.

 

Was "WELCOME TO THE NEXT LEVEL" part of the commercial, or some sort of branding for the clip? Because, if so, that's the first time I have ever seen that ad campaign used in a japanese ad before. I thought that was a US-only campaign.

 

So say how do we rip the video from nicovideo? I habve downloadhelper on firefox but its not working.

You could always use fraps to capture your screen then reencode the capture.

IIRC it was also used in Brazil.

But in that case they actually bothered to translate it into Portuguese.

 

"Welcome to the next level" was used in a lot of Sega commercials, but I've never seen that particular one before with the lasers. And it's interesting that it never mentions sonic 1 locking on. This must be a later commercial.

 

Download helper, its a nifty add on for firefox that can download videos stream from most websites. Also that video is an old commercial Im sure nobody would mind me re-uploading it.

Indeed, it was!

I still remember this is the ads, and in the posters that came with each game. Since I'm way too lazy to grab and take a picture of my Knuckles' Chaotix poster, I'll link to this image instead.

 

It looks like SOJ used "Welcome To The Next Level" to some extent around the time the Saturn was released.

 

Hmm, but did they use it with the square formatting that was used in both that commercial clip and in the US?

Further more, back to my original question - was that actually a part of the commercial?
