Just played a bit today, trying it out with the balance board and some other bits, and I'm defiantly liking this more than the rather underwhelming prequel. The Dream Events are exactly what I was expecting when the game was announced, mixing in elements of Mario kart and the like. It feels more like an actual video game this time, whereas the first was too much about waggling and QTE type things. The Ice Hockey is rather fun, very much like the Ice Hockey games of old on the Mega Drive.

I went through Team Festival mode a little a while ago with my dream team, Eggman's Scramblers (Eggman, Metal Sonic, Knuckles, and Shadow; You've got the Doc and three characters he's used to get back at Sonic/the world), and there were a few Dream Events I hadn't played. Dream Bobsled was the shit (Twilight Cage from Chronicles leading into the Heroes Special Stage), and I really enjoyed Dream Curling (which is more bowling with items than curling).

How is it with the Balance Board? I'm curious, cause the first time I played through Festival was with the remote, and today I used the remote and nunchuk, which was a bit of an improvement.

  3. From the GameTrailers review, it seems That's the Way I Like It is in this game somewhere. If it is, I am contractually obligated to buy it.

I don't think I've heard it anywhere in the game. There are 3 dream events I haven't unlocked though. You can buy music in the game, so maybe it's from there. Or GameTrailers just put it in the review because it was Sonic related.

Yup, you buy that music in the shop.

Works just as well as the skiing and snowboarding worked in Wii Fit, which is nice considering how wonky Balance board control was in Rabbids TV Party. Doing tricks is too easy with it though, just wiggle about a bit!

After you've completed (or maybe so much as gold/1st medal'd) enough events, you can buy a music player at the Secret Shop (looks like an iPod Shuffle kinda), and from there you can use the music you've bought at the shop. Press - (minus) to scroll through the tracks before the events start. You can do this for all events except for figure skating, downhill, and I think alpine.

I spent some of this morning playing more of the DS version. The Adventure Tour is pretty cool, better than I expected. You can also find little bits of trivia about the characters and their respective universes hidden inside things (you can get certain items inside barrels, crates, and snowmen). The characters interact pretty well with each other (as well as you can get with text and "whoo hoo I'm the best!" voice clips anyway). There's also character specific minigames, like hitting switches with Amy's hammer or collecting batteries to light up a room and scare ghosts with Luigi.

Ah, cool. Good to know, just in case I ever feel the need to get a balance board. I just moved in with a friend from high school who's into more casual stuff (he wants to go halfsies on Wii Sports Resort when it comes with 2 Motion Plus, and fucking loves Tetris to death), so maybe there will be one in our midst sooner than I think.

Also, fuck the Raving Rabbids. Ubisoft has pretty much shoved Rayman aside and those fucking Rabbids have little to no appeal. They're like ugly drooling little five year olds/dogs who don't do anything but stand there and stare at you like an idiot for ten minutes before speaking up, and said speech ends up being completely unintelligible and painful to listen to.

I guess the only event I found a bit disorientating with the balance board was the Mario galaxy dream event. Maybe because the up down movement is reversed, but I found it easier to control with the remote only.

I actually quite like the Rabbids as characters (they get a good laugh out of me anyway), but I would like to see a new proper Rayman adventure game eventually in the vein of Rayman 2.

I adore the Sonic 3D Saturn/PC sountrack, so I couldn't help but notice this:
Listen to this, Alpine Downhill (0:24 to 0:37).
And then this, Green Grove Act 1 (1:03 to 1:30).
I can't tell if it's intentional, which wouldn't be unlikely with everything else in the game, or just a coincidence.

No, that's way too open to be a coincidence.

Classic, and specifically obscure classic remixes are a dying breed in Sonic games. And Chronicles did them no justice at all. It's nice to hear (the superior) Green Grove again.

I noticed many, many musics from Sonic games. One of the ones that sticked into my mind are:

Options Menu = Sonic Advance 3 - Options Menu
Party Mode Menu = Sonic Rush - Mirage Road Zone

I need to play it again in order to recall the other musics, though.
