Right, you can't put a poll in a locked thread.

Now that I've seen them all together, I've realised why I prefer No. 3 to the rest.

I think IMO the colours of No's 5 & 5 look a little too... harsh and 'forced', whereas the colours seem to blend together much better in No. 3.

    What does everyone else think?

I think they look 98% identical and nobody will notice any difference. Especially in-game.

I like to lurk around here every few months. I love the idea of this project - but you're still discussing the art for the first level?

These types of comments are so two weeks ago!

That said, I believe the term "put up or shut up" applies pretty well in this case. Unless you can magically pull hundreds of talented graphical artists out of your ass, this is the pace we have to work with. At least we're on not on a time limit or anything.

While I agree in principle with Tweaker, I don't believe you've taken the time to look at the majority of art that's been done. Much of the general object art for the game is either completed now or at an advanced stage. As for level art, it makes little sense to focus on more than one zone when we don't have a playable release of EHZ yet, don't you think? We're aiming for that to be polished before moving on, as it will be the template for everything else.

Surely it's nothing to do with not having the manpower, but spending this amount of time on a shadow colour that a) nobody is going to care about and b) is pretty obvious which one's best seems... illogical.

But since I'm not the one working on this project I guess my opinion (or that of anyone else's) doesn't really matter that much. I guess I should "put up or shut up".

Like it has been discussed before we are not professionals, so we may feel free to resort on expert (and extremely picky)Sonic Retro forums members to express their thoughts helping us decide smaller yet-important refinements. (we don't want to readjust later)
What mostly everyone sees *not worth the trouble*, is instead precious help and a way for S2HD Staff to share our workings preview with you all.

We'll make another update about Level Art pretty soon.

(sorry I haven't posted here much, I was looking, but never got stuff to post)
Here are the very small flowers (you can see the updates in their journey)
    Newest bottom, oldest top

Vincent helped for the last one (thanks Vincent)

Hmm, I think the best flower is the one in the middle. Those at the bottom look a bit too square, and those at the top feel a bit too simple.

You forgot to post the original, for comparison. =P

Even if it looks better than the previous version, we still need to see if it resembles the source... And it looks like some parts are getting a bit too different now.

By the way, what's with that pronounced line in the middle? It looks quite odd.

  15. I would say it is an eroded cliff. as you can see in the title screen of sonic2 there are lost of eroded cliffs in it

I think the version on the right looks better

Ok yes I do agree that the new one is the most realistic to actual hills, but like said nothing I ever do is final, its just to see what direction people are looking for.

Here is another try and comparison

Personally the TD is something I like but the problem is just making is I am not a fan of the shading on the top of the hills as they don't look organic. So I have done another one, shading 1, which is done more paint like and out of them all stick closer to the original just paint like and linked shades. But its the public that play so have a look and complain... I mean comment.

I like the "new" realistic hills, Shading 1 or 2 are really cool, I think I prefer shading 2 though...

Keep the good work flare ^^

Seriously, nobody should be working based on the unfiltered pixel art alone. That's not what the graphics were supposed to look like. =|

In this case, I think a combination of the "Shading 1" version, with something similar to the stripes seen in "TD" could be an interesting, non-realistic take on these mountains.

ICEknight, in all honesty you don't have the file I am working on which has several layers of the original work in different filters, it just happens to be the unfiltered copy of the sprites that was being used to compare.

Well, sure, that's what I was talking about... I think the unfiltered version should only be used when something's looking way to blurry to make something out of it, otherwise it's not too useful for making comparisons to the remastered art, and could even lead to misinterpretations (random vertical lines appearing, etc).

It makes little difference in this case anyway, if we don't count the bunker/crater thingy. I'm just speaking in general.
